I'm with Giabow - if you do a "drive through PA thing" I can almost definitely come n visit. You would most likely be traveling on Route 80 and it goes right south of me. Although State College is far more interesting than Williamsport. Smile

Ooh! Ooh! Can I tag along in Chicago? I'm always looking for an excuse for a road trip.

Saying 'yes' is how things grow. Saying 'yes' leads to knowledge."

Okay. Just wondering. We're in Lewisburg every once in a while to visit my cousin.

She probably wouldn't go anywhere near there, would she? I'm having a hard time picturing the route in my head.

as to driving on Route 80:

Pennsylvania is a rather wide state - plus, driving across it is... oddly surreal, you feel like you've been driving forever, but not actually getting anywhere. And it all looks the same. It's like being in the Twilight Zone.

I much prefer driving to Philadelphia. (although I don't think I could manage doing that solo anymore)

Okay...this will sound silly, but I'd really like to see 4th of July fireworks with you guys in Chicago. Big Grin

Could we go somewhere where you can see them and have an open air party?

And I really would like to see the Taste of Chicago.

The City's official big fireworks display is actually on the 3rd. I think the Grant Park Symphony plays the 1812 Overture in honor of our hatred of the French. Or our love of Russian independence. Or something. The suburbs mostly have displays on the 4th.

There you go, arrive in Chi sometime around June 30 or July 1 and I'll be sure to be there Tuesday or Wednesday (just have to be back home Thursday early to get a nap and drive another 5 hours in a different direction). This is assuming, of course, that I can stay with Royko or Nel.

I would like to be able to meet up with you when you're in DC. I have no idea what my work schedule will be like then, so I'd have to play it by ear.

I live in the D.C. area.
I may be in a foreign country that week (somewhere in Europe!!!), but I've been to a lot of museums and I can answer some questions about the metro, etc.

I've been on half a million field trips to almost all the museums, galleries, and monuments.

Also, if you tell me what types of food you like and price ranges for said food, I can look up some places.

Downtown silver spring (just outside D.C.) has a "zone" with a lot of restaurants, a Borders, a couple movie theatres, a regular theatre (not movie), and a comic book store. My home town also has some cool stuff, but I don't know if you want to go there (it does have a metro stop).

I would definitely go to Baltimore. The aquarium is very cool. The only other thing I remember about baltimore besides boats is a kid's museum called Port Discovery which I went to many years ago.

Were you planning on sticking to D.C. or are you going to wander a bit?

ETA: Most places in D.C. are pretty well connected by Metro or bus. They have pretty good websites if you want to plan travel.

Mmmmmmm... Red Sea, Ethiopian restaurant up in Adams Morgan. I miss that restaurant. *cries*

There was one in Georgetown too but not as home-y and not as good and I can't remember the name.

edit in: Oh yeah, it was Zeds. Went there once or twice when the un-in-laws came to town. Red Sea was miles better and much cheaper.
