Hey all, can anybody educate me on HTML, and such editors as FrontPage?

I'm applying for a new job (House of Commons Library, eep!) and they want me to be at least mildly fluent in editing webpages and stuff. The requirement also mentions 'liaising with RSS and HCIO compilers' (whatever THAT means).

So yeah, I'm totally ignorant of all of this, but I want to cram as much in as possible by the end of the month, so I can blab my way through an interview if I get that far Smile

Any and all help will be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Last night I dreamed that Eisenhower came to stay with us, and he insisted on being put to sleep in the dog kennel, with a collar and chain about his neck."

I do not know much about editors like frontpage, but I can probably help you out with learning HTML. Editors like that are generally designed for people who want to make websites without knowing HTML, which inherently takes away a lot of flexibility.

The best way to learn HTML is to get a free editor (something like PSPad which is probably my fave, though I've also used Evrsoft FirstPage way back when, and if you do a google for free html editor you'll find others, also this search page at zdnet), use some of the online tutorials (like those at About.com and other sites linked in Apathy's thread) and just go at it, making simple things and expanding from there.

Google html tutorials and you'll find all sorts of stuff, including this site which could be helpful (didn't look around, but it seemed friendly enough).

It would be surprising to me if all you needed to know was html. The basics are very easy to pick up.

W3Scools is one of the best sites for learning about the web languages with tutorials in html and everything else.

I'm not a fan of FrontPage, but if that is what they use, then you should probably try to get comfortable with it. Otherwise, I'm a Dreamweaver fan, but I also use Nvu which is free and opensource and a very good alternative to Dreamweaver.
