One problem: 12 images of a graveyard in January for a calendar? Wouldn't people rather have all-year-'round pics?

Here's another. Shrunk to 33% of it's size and .jpg image quality is 54% for net speed. No filters, cropping, or uzzair tweekings:

Oh that's just creepy and amazing!

I kinda think that if we have to have cemeteries then they should grow vegetables instead of flowers.

My Dad once said he wants us to plant celeriac on his grave. I'm not sure he was joking...

Personally I think it would creep me out to eat veggies grown from dead people nutrients.

That would make you a type of sin-eater then; a highly respected member of any community.

It's more creepy to me that so many acres of arable land is just sitting there, looking green and being kinda useless.

Yes I know that opinion is most likely a minority of one! I just don't see the point of cemeteries.

I see the point of cemetaries-- a place for th living to go to remember the dead. But I don't see the point of coffins. They seem incredibly futile and exorbitant. I don't wish to get buried (I want to be cremated), but if I did, I'd request one of these.

Then again, if it weren't for coffins, we wouldn't have as much archeological or anthropological information as we do. So I might have my stuff buried in a time capsule, but my body is for the worms.

I understand that's supposed to be the point of them. I just don't use them like that. I can't even tell you where my grandparents are buried, but I still remember them.

I see it as a (wealthy) person's last attempt at immortality and conquering nature. The way the unique man-made geometric structures contrast against the randomness of the landscape and tree branches are a person's last "LOOK AT ME!"

The time and money that went into making some of these extravagant pieces must have been eyebrow-raising (and I'm not showing the statues I found because I'll be stealing their poses, ze entiaire raison I frizz mai boot off in ze furst place!!).

Just think: you could give your money to help your family or a charity, but no, instead you're either going to (a) make a baroque memorial to yourself or a 'respected member of the community' or (b) show the world the depths of your pain when a loved one passed away. Either way, the stones tell interesting stories.

I didn't take a photo of it but there was one stone that resembled a, um-... cylindrical column with a bulbous top. How would you like to be recorded in history by stating that you had penis envy? Eek

With the way families scatter across the country and even the globe, it seems to me like most people don't use cemeteries that way anyway (err, the way Al was talking about. Not Furi. Synchronized posting, yay!). People are too far away to visit graves often so they have other ways of remembering.

I'd totally eat vegetables from a graveyard. I think that'd be an excellent way of honoring those who came before. And much better than eating vegetables that grew in poop.

i use to want to be buried in a graveyard, but not one my family could visit, so in a hundred years time someone could pass by and think 'i wonder who she was' and then get distracted by something shiny and pass on again.

but now i don't.

That's a bald eagle flying away. He was about 30 feet away perched in a tree when my clomping around made him leave. The bird was so big it took me a few moments to compose myself and think hey dummy, take a picture of it.

Mind you I was standing in 18 inches of snow in sneakers and jeans, so running through the park after the eagle was a no-go. Beez and I kinda-sorta drove in the direction it flew but Birdie was well-hid by then. Frown

Cheers!!

Good point on the 'calendar idea'- - - that was rather silly in retrospect. (Derr) But WOW that 2nd image was spectacular! Good catch man!!
