It's really not too early for most of those, and you want the sweet peas especially to get a head start because the bloom craps out pretty much when it gets hot.

I usually do sunflowers right in the ground, but if you can get them into individual peat pots you can just tear out the bottom (I know you're not supposed to have to, but it works better) and just plop the whole thing in the ground pot and all.
Don't forget, with most of the flowers (not the sunflowers) you want to snip down to the first set of true leaves. It's gets them to bush out and have stronger stems.

How early is too early to put broccoli in the ground in Central PA? I won't be able to for at least a month (I think that's when we get the garden plots,) but I'm fairly certain as soon as I get one, those suckers are going to have to go in. I've already had to move them from the little starting tray greenhouse think into their own little pots.

Here are the average last frost dates in PA. Usually you want broccoli to be started 5-7 weeks before the last frost date.

ETA: heh, you may be getting your plot earlier than they should go in.

I've done that. They're started already. But started and in the ground are two different things. Do I wait until after the last frost to get them in? Or is broccoli hardy enough to handle a little frost?

They can stand a little cold, but if it's going to be below freezing for more than 24 hours you should wait to put them out or you'll be running to cover them all the time (which is a pain if they're not right there at home).

Put them outside on a couple of nice days- not in direct sun- to acclimate them first.

So I managed to get a hold on some shamrock plants, and I really don't want to kill them. Has anyone grown it before?

yeah. don't over-water them and they should be fine.

ETA: sorry, that sounds kinda condescending, doesn't it? Smile Honestly though, shamrocks are ridiculously easy to grow - if they are long, break them in half (the pieces should be about an inch long) It helps to have some rocks in the bottom of the pot - a non-draining pot by the way - the rocks should be eh, two-ish inches thick, then poiting soil type dirt above that, wet it all down and shove the root thingys in the dirt, sprinkle a bit of dirt over them and let them in a sunny window.

Thanks Maeve! Smile I think Home Depot is having their big spring plant sale soon, so I'll see if I can't get down there and find a pot for them.
