Its time to celebrate the 7th Boardiversary!!!!

It is indeed that time of year again! In honour of the seven years our beloved Board has been in existence, we’re doing our annual Boardiversary Contest.

Boardiversary 2008 happens to be in the run-up to the much-anticipated Graveyard Book.

Neil says that part of the idea behind the book came from the Jungle Book, where the animals taught Mowgli their skills. Except in The Graveyard Book, it's the dead who are the teachers.

So, the question is: In 200 words or less, in poetry or prose, what skill would you like the dead to teach you, and what would you do with your new skill?

And for your entertainment and anticipation, here are the prizes, which to add to your anticipation will be sent out in small bundles of a couple of winners at a time (well, for your anticipation and your technical mods purse!).

1.
Vertigo Visions. Published 2000 by DC Comics. Includes a crapload of images from Books of Magic, The Dreaming, The Endless, Sandman, Swamp Thing, Sandman Mystery Theatre, Black Orchid, Stardust and a crapload of other cool Vertigo images.

2.
Neil Gaiman's Wheel of Worlds #0, and Neil Gaiman's Teknophage #1 AND #1 Special edition as well as Teknophage #2.

3.
Stardust book on cd. Read by Neil himself! Sealed! Which means I haven't had a chance to get my grubby little hands on it to listen to it Razz

4.
Signal to Noise. Please note this is the 2007 edition.

5.
Sandman issue, #19, "Midsummer Night's Dream." September 1990.

6.
This is Ye Olde Neil prize pack. Here we have A1, published 1989 and features a Neil & Dave McKean comic, "Mr X: Heartsprings and Watchstops." There's also Temps, part of a 5 book series devised by Neil and Alex Stewart. Published 1991. Also Eurotemps, from the same series. Published 1992.

7.
Creatures of the Night, with artwork by the inimitable Michael Zulli. Lettering by Todd Klein. Published 2004.

8.
Beowulf: The Script Book!

9.
Alan Moore prize pack! We've got "From Hell" and "Horus: Lord of Light" comic with a hilarious letter written by Mr. Neil.

10.
2007 certainly was the Year of Movies for Mr. Neil, wasn't it? Here we have two paperbacks from each of the movies, Stardust and the Beowulf novelization written by the wonderful Caitlin Kiernan.

Now for the technical part:

How to play:
*Write a short story, letter, poem or other piece of descriptive writing!
-The entry is not to be posted. Email it to me. Once the contest is over, I'll post them all (unattributed, you can take credit then if you desire)
*Email the mods at gaiman.board.mods@gmail.com with the following info:
-Your handle/ID on the message board
-Your entry
-A list of which prizes you don't own
-Your mailing address, including your real name (We've had boxes sent back because "Glurgle The Very Large Bunny" wasn't listed as living at the address on the box)

Rules: The same as all the other years: What we say goes.
Sorry, but it solves any contradictions or complaints from the get-go. We're not professional rules writers. Now go check out the guidelines.

Guidelines:
*Contest is open to Neil Gaiman message board posters who posted on the board between June 15th 2007 and June 14th 2008 and who aren't banned or currently suspended.
*The contest will run from June 15 til the end of the month. Prize winners will be posted on July 4th.
*Max of one prize per poster, even if the poster has multiple handles.
*If you don't want any of the prizes or you don't want to supply me with a mailing address to send a prize to, don't play!
*You may only win prizes you don't already have (Therefore, if you own all the prizes, you can't win anything. But then, if you're then only person who doesn't have a prize, that'd be an automatic win!)
*The prizes are duplicates from GMZoe's collection. Many are not mint. We consider this a reading-copy contest. Be sure to thank GMZoe next time you see him on the Board.
*If Harpers, Authors on the Web or Mr.Gaiman asks us to take this down, no prizes will be awarded. This contest has no affiliation to any of them.
*Prizes will most likely be awarded by the hat of randomness, though it's a bit more complex than that as I have to sort through who needs what prize. This means this is NOT a skill-based contest. Everyone pretty much has the same shot as everyone else at winning. We will not be judging you by your mad rhyming skillz.

Questions? Ask!

Goodluck, have fun and ~~winning vibes all round~~

You are an Accomptant. You keep track of the King's accounts, which is a fairly simplish job: his current holdings is always A LOT, and his expected revenue is always MORE. 'Sgood ta be da King. As long as there isn't a peasant uprising, you're likely to keep your head. Also, you're the only one in the office who knows how to use an abbacus. (Or multiply.) (Or add.)

I prefer to live in a country that's small, and old, and where no one would ever have the NERVE to wear a cape in public, whether they could leap tall buildings in a single bound or not.

Limertilly: A pagan deity forgotten by man and therefore banished to the realms of memory and darkness now remembered by a young girl in downtown L.A. in the form of a dream and therefore freed to reap your revenge on the people who discarded you, thereby forcing said girl to learn to use her innate yet awesome powers as a soothsayer to gather forces of the Earth to defy you and once more banish you to your cold, cold prisoooooon

HAPPY BOARDIVERSARYYYYYYYY!

~You are a *Taverner*.
Sometimes patrons want to go where everybody knows their names, though it helps
when half of them are named John. When people want to celebrate, or commiserate,
they gather to your establishment. You provide the atmosphere, the warmth, rum,
and even an ear to bend. Did I mention the rum? Years before the language will be
mangled with terms like facilitator and networking and interpersonal communication,
you've overseen it all, and broken up a few bar fights, to boot.~
