Oh my. I've just read these again (without the children charging around in the background)

They are so full of wonder and sadness and such feeling. I particularly loved numbers 2 and 7 (haha), 9 (cried), 12 was lovely, 14 was brilliant, 15 (really cried), 17 (made late new year resolutions), 18 (want receipe), 20 (sad and confusing - it doesn't take much) and 21 confusing and enlightening all at once)

I see why you would have to use a hat now. How on earch would you chose? I really enjoyed reading them though (and if I'm going to enter these things think I should try a lot harder!) Smile

I won something! it's a miracle! this puts all the mods on the fast track for sainthood! I never win anything! it isn't possible to abuse the exclamation point enough to convey the screeching and squealing and jumping about that happened when I found out that I actually managed to win something! in fact: !!!!!!!!!!!

I love the entire WORLD! except Rush Limbaugh.

I love #16, so whoever wrote that one, good on ya. and #22 is awesomesauceness. and all the others, of course! Smile

Awww, I didn't win. (I'm kind of glad about that, though, because in my quest to make a sestina using words from the prize introductions, I totally lost track of our theme.)

Mine was #21.

You should see the original, with all the fancy scripts... if I can figure out a way to convert it into jpg, I'll post it here.

You are a Player. There are no small parts, only small people, and we suspect that's due to malnutrition endemic to the period. Every night you're a different person, knave or king, man or woman, 875 roles in all. The ones the audience liked got you applause, and the ones they didn't got you pelted rotten vegetables. The theater is a harsh mistress, but you love her dearly. Plus, it beats working for a living!

'But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
'Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: 'we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad.'
'How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice
'You must be' said the Cat 'or you wouldn't have come here'

I guess it wasn't what I expected. I'm not quite sure what I expected, but not a letter, & not one that was so funny & so dead-pan & non-chalant & matter-of-fact at the same time. It made me laugh, & THAT I certainly didn't expect. Smile

You are a Farrier. You enjoy nothing more than seeing a well-fitted hoof. Just because it's an animal doesn't mean it can't have a touch of style. Try this pump; here's a stilletto; my, did you see the calves on that pony? Size 6? Oh, madame, really! Still, there are so many hooves, and so little time, and you often miss out on the fun (and the better meme results.)

Hasn't everyone found a letter with a recipe for cookies that allow you to talk with the dead? Smile

Beautiful and very inspiring. Yay for the winners. No, wait, yay for everyone!
I am *very* late in posting but i *did* write one. And thought i might still share. Hope you guys don't mind. Here's what i wanted the dead to teach me.

The dead could teach me how to more
appreciate the living
they'd holler to me that i sure
do need to be more giving

The friends who died, whose memory,
for fear of my forgetting,
I clung to way too viciously
no peace for me, no letting

my heart's tattoos that they once drew
discolour in the sunshine,
I clad myself in nightly hue
and made my heart a death-shrine

The dead could come and kick my ass
and tell me: but we're dead!
Your loved ones who are with you bless
the life you have ahead.

The people who are lost to me:
I pray for your forgiveness.
I have to pour more energy
in people who are dead less.

My heart bears your impressions still
and will while it still beats;
'cause i'll remember you untill
I join you, 'twixt death's sheets.

~You are a *Taverner*.
Sometimes patrons want to go where everybody knows their names, though it helps
when half of them are named John. When people want to celebrate, or commiserate,
they gather to your establishment. You provide the atmosphere, the warmth, rum,
and even an ear to bend. Did I mention the rum? Years before the language will be
mangled with terms like facilitator and networking and interpersonal communication,
you've overseen it all, and broken up a few bar fights, to boot.~

well, you can keep checking, but the lady who is sending them out is away at a wedding, so it may be a while yet.

And probably even longer than that. I've got $4 to my name right now, and that's not likely to change any time soon. Postage for prizes ain't cheap.

And, great to see you posting again, Cappy Meriwether! It's always sad to see newbies disappear, so I'm glad to see you're back and contributing to the forums again!
