A while ago i started making a Dutch movie-blog. However, since i plan to advertise the fact to cultural mags and customers, i want it to be spiffy. Since i'm not a designer: I'm very hard-up for some feedback / ideas. I'm on a tight schedule, but feedback can never hurt. Could you help me out?

first thing I notice is that the articles could look better in one long column, instead of two truncated ones
and the catagories on the right side might work better on the left, partitioned in a seperate box |

I like the simplicity of it, the non-clutteredness. I like that there's just black and white, with the occasional colour pic.
What I'm not too keen on: The title is a touch too simple. I'd already like it better if you turned it into a graphic and used anti-aliasing to smoothen the font. The other thing I don't particularly like is that it's obviously optimised for a much lower horizontal resolution than what I have; as a result, almost half of the screen is blank, and that's pretty much the middle of the screen. Hope this helps!

I'm not a designer either and have very little to say on the presentation, other than it's clear and easy to read and navigate. Beware of typos however, I noticed a t missing somewhere, one of a pair of quotation marks somewhere else... (which means too I can still read Dutch! Yay me!

I'm also more used to seeing categories on the left side. And the font/writing seems teeny on my screen.
But I like the film strip in black at the top and then everything else white, it's very simple, but classic. This is a super quick impression too. I like that title thingy lots better, dripping purple was a good addition. The writing is still way too teeny for me to pay attention to though. If it were in English (I can't read Dutch) I would most likely skip it.

Like the title, although something that's more directly linked to films might be better.
I definitely think this title *looks* better, but at the same time it's too small for the detail in the lettering to read well. At this size, all the little details read more like noise and less like design. This is just a very minor issue, mind you. |

I like the layout.
For me, gray print on a white background is hard to read on a computer screen. The font is small but I'm used to resizing the font when I visit websites. Maybe wider margins? I have a hard time when print is all the way to the edge of the screen - both left side and right side. I do better in terms of ease-of-reading if there is a margin. Some websites I don't bother with if I can;t read them easily. So if I were putting in a request, I would ask for black font instead of gray and for wider margins so my eyes aren't drawn to the very edge of my computer screen. i'd second the margin thing - at least a 1/2 inch on either side. makes the page easier to read, and it'll look even cleaner than it does now.
i really like the header, though. ____________________________ Have pity for the minimalists...  "She's too clever by half," said Dr Fruitbowl. I also like the header,
I like the formating style, however your columns are bleeding into each other, maybe make sure that the when the photo's are that big (like the 2 in the middle) that you start the text underneath, there isn't enought room around them and it makes it confusing  |

I like the simple layout, the two columns and the clean, subdued colour scheme very much. For me the font isn't too small, but I guess you should go with the majority opinion on that. The header looks good, too - the film strip pattern & your picture are great, and I like the dash of purple in the ampersand - but I'm personally not that nuts about the new font you chose for the title. Something simpler and classier would go better with the rest, and wouldn't make the reader wonder if the site's only dedicated to horror movies, you know? Anyway, I think Luid & Dodelijk in itself is a much better name than the previous one.
How about adding somewhere near the top of the page a line that immediately tells the random person stumbling upon your site what it's all about? The previous title had the advantage of being kind of obvious in that respect, but this one needs a... slogan, or something. "Genadeloze filmkritiek en, euh, weet-ik-niet-wat-je-eigenlijk-hebt-gepland-voor-de-site".  Also, whenever you're writing about a particular movie, how about including on the front page under the title the basic stats already (year, director, country of origin). It would look just a tad more professional. You said you're working on the typo's already, so I won't go there, but it's true their impact can be surprisingly significant. Anyway, interesting site! I like your style and you obviously know what you're writing about, although I wouldn't mind if it was even bolder and more personal, colourful or provocative (I know you have the personality for it) - it would just make your site stand out a little better among all the others. Tis, ik hou van je! And yes, the pieces are neutral. That has a purpose, though i intend to get a little crabbyer as time goes on. Today, i'm going to try and root out *all* spellingmistakes as best i can. The design will have to wait untill tonight when i'm back behind my own computer. The margins will be widened, the menu needs slimming, the font will get bigger. Whether i keep the grey or go with the black, i'll have to see. my 2c - i love the title but (on my computer at least) it's very hard to read. all i really see at first glance is the "&" and I had to squint to see words. i love the film strip and photo on the top right the navigation bar at the bottom.. i'm not sure - maybe have each heading in it's own column? or set it out in rows? e.g. categories: x, y, z ______________________________ links: x, y, z ______________________________ recent posts: x, y, z it just looks a bit clunky. but it's a great site! ____________________________________________________ Did you know?
