I think if we hadn't been taught to be wary of that sort of thing by RTD episodes, it would have been all right!

I wonder if the people we'd never heard of were supposed to allude to off-camera adventures, or to ones from next season. Not sure how the timey-wimey would work for that, though.

I think the next ep might be more of an exploration of why they can't go round 'fixing' historical events rather than an actual assassination attempt. I hope, anyway Razz

I was similarly worried. But it rather neatly undercut the conceit. When RTD did it it was all rah-rah... this time, not so much. someone in the background said "for this?"

When you combine this with the Pandorica(?) thing from last season I think we can really see Moffat's angle on Dr Who - and by extension why Neil is a good fit for Moffat as a writer, where he wouldn't have fitted for RTD at all.

That'd be awesome!

I choked up a bit when he got that hurt look on his face when Amy wouldn't hug him. *sniff*

I don't want to wait three months!

ETA: On every thread I read everyone thinks that when River met him in the Library and she whispered something in his ear to prove that she really did know him, that she told him his true name. Which is something we don't really know. But... I just re-watched it recently and I swear he just says, "but I wouldn't tell you that unless we were..." and she just grins and nods. (right?)

When, exactly, was it confirmed that she told him his name? I'm obviously missing something that everyone else seems to know. Where did I miss it?

another edit: I just re-re-watched it and she whispers in his ear, he looks very startled and is actually shocked into silence, then she asks him if they're good.

Are we all just assuming that the only thing that could stun him so much is her telling him his name?

That's what I took it to mean, too.

Ditto.
Though I knew something odd was going on. I figured it had already happened.

There were captions this time. Captions are even cooler than bow ties and fezzes.

At the end of the second part, after she's cuffed him to take his place in the device, he says "River, you know my name! You whispered my name in my ear! There's only one reason I would ever tell anyone my name. There's only one time I could..."

Thanks! I really did just watch those episodes, but I think I kinda zoned out at the end.

I'm having a really hard time re-watching David Tennant episodes, even Moffat written ones!

The thing I don't understand about RS being A/R's daughter is that how does she not remember being in the spacesuit (she was examining it after all).

I don't think it's ever been established that the girl in the spacesuit is anyone yet? Also she could have forgotten, it wouldn't be the first time. Timey-wimey.

Remember the picture by the bed in the orphanage? Unless it was merely a ploy by the Silence.

Hm. I smell Red Herring.

There's too many times where it would come up with her galavantering around the universe with the doctor. Ie she spent loads of time in an orphanage, the spacesuit thing, the REGENERATION THING.

I DUNNO. River Song is really quite clever, I wouldn't be surprised if it is a ruse.

Damn, you are right.

What that last episode also established is that, finally, the Doctor does trust River.

I want to know why the Clerics were after the Doctor, given that a season before they were best buddies...

He blew up the Time Lords and the Daleks. He killed House. He committed subliminal genocide on The Silence. Yes, he mostly kills bad guys, but he kills, a lot, and assumes that you know just who should be killed and why. I'm guessing some day soon, he gets it wrong.

haha, i read that post, Dweller, and my first thought was "He killed HOUSE? But what will happen to the series? what can they sign Hugh Laurie on to do next?"

Limertilly: A pagan deity forgotten by man and therefore banished to the realms of memory and darkness now remembered by a young girl in downtown L.A. in the form of a dream and therefore freed to reap your revenge on the people who discarded you, thereby forcing said girl to learn to use her innate yet awesome powers as a soothsayer to gather forces of the Earth to defy you and once more banish you to your cold, cold prisoooooon

House has been killing itself pretty efficiently all on its own, for reasons to spoilerrific to get into here.
