I could buy that if it wasn't so clear in the episodes that Rose and Ten definitely don't see it that way!

"The other night I dreamed that King George VI was dead, and that Helen Hardinge had somehow or other got herself proclaimed Queen of England, and that I was detailed to go and tell her that it wouldn't do at all; and when I did this, all she said was, 'You see, I am really Queen Mary,' and I said, 'Oh very well' - words to that effect, and woke up.

Last night I dreamed that Eisenhower came to stay with us, and he insisted on being put to sleep in the dog kennel, with a collar and chain about his neck."

I think that poster is awesome, and this is from someone who could only recognise about 5 of those companions, but I also love sprite art

No, that's cool, that's fine. Its *the Doctor* having any romance that Mark thinks is off, and I agree with him. Tons of companions in the original run had romances and in a fair few cases, stopped travelling with the Doctor as a result.

Ah, so he doesn't just hate romance in general. Good to know.

And that wallpaper emphasises how out of joint it is for the Doctor to have a relationship, at least with a human. It further divorces the link between the Ninth and Tenth Doctors and their forebears...can you imagine the First or Second Doctors concurring with Ten about how attractive Rose is? *shudder*

If Rose knew what his previous incarnations were like, she'd likely have second thoughts!

Plus, he's met way nicer girls than Rose...Peri was a classy bird Big Grin

I SAW THE END!

I was being good, watching on scifi, since they're not too lagged, but my cable's been out for two days and won't be fixed until next week, so I had to watch something, so I got my hands on....*cough*

ANYWAY....

I liked Turn Left, and I liked the ending, although... How did Bad Wolf get written on everything? Didn't that happen the first time because Rose absorbed the something from the heart of the Tardis? And did we ever get an explanation on why it was "bad wolf" in the first place? And how has Rose been popping up on monitors all season? Also, why is Asia in space?

And then Stolen Earth was good, especially the end....OMFG, are they doing it? Are they going to 11? Was this the biggest secrety secret every? OMG OMG OMG!!!!

And then....
Er, no, just the hand. And Donna. And HandDonna. HandDonnaDoctor. HandDonnaDoctorDonna. None of that made much sense at all, and two Tennants sort of halves the effect of one, and it was all sort of "let's write ourselves out of this one!" I'm always impressed when they can bring it to a conclusion that sort of makes sense and isn't just a bunch of random stuff made up for convenience, which this kind of was. Meh. I did love all the helpers (I AM NOT CALLING THEM CHILDREN OF TIME) with their doomsday scenarios. Also, German Daleks? Hee!

So the romance at the end...well, I'm hoping that's the end of that. It was a cop-out. And kind of weird for her, because it's him but not quite him and she didn't get very much time to process it, although she didn't seem to want much time. Also, in a way, wouldn't that make Donna Rose's mother-in-law, sort of?

Sad about Donna, but I was glad there was a sacrifice in there. Big endings need them. It's too pat to have everyone live happily ever after. And her fate was both tragic and benign -- she got to keep going on, but without the knowledge that she wasn't just a temp. Well, maybe she'll find that out on her own...in The Donna Noble Chronicles! :-P

Gwen is still adorable and I still have no desire to watch Torchwood. (Same goes for Capt Jack, really.)

All this to-do about the loss of lives surrounding The Doctor. I dunno, he's 900+, shouldn't he be kind of used to death by now? I understand it's an undercurrent, but I can't imagine why anyone would choose that theme to focus on, let alone hammer us over the head with. See ya 'round, RTD.

All in all, I'd say this season tied with season 3 in quality. So I'd go 2, 1, 3&4. I thought 3 was a bit better in the individual episodes (Gridlock, Blink, Family of Blood 2 parter, and Utopia), but the ending here was worlds above "Last of the Time Lords". This season the only real standout for me was "Midnight", but fewer things made me cringe.

Royko, I would say the Doctor would be used to deaths, but then, I would also say that the enormous loss of life in the Time War probably made further death a little harder to bear. The reminder that you're the last of your race would always be plagueing your mind somewhat. *shrug*

And weird, cos I found Season 3 my least favourite season so far - so for me it goes 3, 2, 1 & 4 jointly.

Wait, 3 was your least favorite, so 1 & 4 were your favorite?

I was saying 2 was my favorite, followed by 1 and then 3 & 4 tied as my least favorites.

Ah writes teh dialog but Ah knows not wher to put it.

quote:
"Relative to what?"
"What?"
"Dimensions relative to what? Space? You? Point Zero? Strawberry ice cream?"
"... Yes. That's it exactly. You're very clever."
"You're being evasive."
"Look, you really want me to try and explain the Timelord take on relativity? Fetch a bag lunch, we might be here for a few decades."
"Well, I've heard somewhere time is relative. Which makes one wonder, relative to what?"
"Now you're just dragging us round in circles, that's solipism, that is."
"Dude. One noun. I don't even have to know what it means. Question, 'Relative to what?' Answer- 'Bla.' The end. What's the freaking problem?"
"I can't believe it, you've come up with the answer on your own. Yes, relative to Bla. You're a right genius."
"Awh, you're no fun when you're pretending defeat."
"Well, you'll have to forgive me if certain aspects of Timelord physics don't translate into Mellissan neo-Pacific Creole."
"You know, you might find it easier to explain things if you actually tried every once in a while."

I've just discovered by accident that there was an episode of Doctor Who in the Hartnell era, "Mission to the Unknown", which didn't actually have the Doctor in it. This sounds so peculiar, I want to know what the point was. Mark, you must have seen it: what the hell was that about?

Mission to the Unknown, otherwise called Dalek Cutaway, was a single-episode story without the Doctor (though the credits still mention William Hartnell as the Doctor, as per his contract), its purpose being to act as a kind of teaser for the upcoming story The Dalek's Master Plan, which was, and probably still is, the most epic and ambitious story of Doctor Who yet. It went on for 12 episodes in all, and had the first two companions to die.

Mission to the Unknown's setting was a kind of 'conference of evil geniuses' where the Daleks form an alliance with the evil administrator of the Solar System, Mavic Chen (love that name), and meet many other races intent on destroying Earth, to build the ultimate weapon - the Time Destructor.

Sadly, only about four episodes of The Dalek's Master Plan still exist Frown

Thank you!

(I prefer to believe that there are shaky video copies of all the missing episodes in an attic somewhere!)

Oh noes! Our Dear Leader is accused of abandoning Tintin!

quote:
Mr Moffat told the BBC that "nothing less than Doctor Who could have torn me away" from Tintin, which he described as a "stunning project" he was "proud" to be part of.

But it was "the proper duty of every British subject to come to the aid of the Tardis", he added.

I do love The Moff. Even if he is very very strange and warped.

Yes. But I have to make the note of it because some people I love cause they aren't warped and strange.
