The president elect likes his pastrami on rye with mustard. And he picked one up for his chief of staff.

I feel like such a voyeur. Sort of... weird to me. He's such a good sport about these things. I just hope he's tough when he needs to be.

maybe this is just because i'm a cynical Canadian, but...i'm not sure it's healthy to be as into a politician -- ANY politician -- as Obama's supporters seem to be into him. i understand that it's a response to the disaster of the Bush years, but...still. this kind of fervour unsettles me.

Cobalt, do you remember when Bill Clinton was first elected? Similar hype.

IF Obama revokes some of the protocols in Operation Garden Plot and the Patriot Act, then my Orwellian paranoia will diminish and I'll be more rah-rah.

i don't, really. but i doubt it was quite as hysterical as the Obama-mania, was it?

well, the paranoia is the other side of it -- and i think that's silly too. but i can much more easily understand distrust than this devotion. i'm not worried about Obama, i think he'll probably be a pretty good president. certainly better than Bush was, though that's not saying much. but i don't think that he shits mint ice cream either, and i think that it's dangerous to have so many people believing so much in his powers. he IS going to fuck up and make mistakes, because everyone does, and i think it's more important for his supporters to be able to see those mistakes than for his detractors.

I'm sure Palin would have fucked that up somehow.

And we actually read the suggestions that come into our office suggestion box....

It wasn't AS insane, but Clinton promised the world and came through on very little. I see very little difference here. Even if Obama is the Messiah, he's going to be fighting an entire Congress that does NOT consider the problems of the commoners as relevant.

At least the world will stop hating us now.

edit: Anyway, my point that I forgot to write was that because of Clinton's inability to get citizen-friendly legislation passed (except for FMLA), he became more of a joke than a leader. Obama is going to have to force a lot of unpopular bills through Congress to get this country running right again...I don't think it'll happen.

Hee.

It is amusing how the opinion of the US changed over night. What was even more hysterical was how some commentators were saying how the US was now somehow more liberal than Europe because it elected a black president.

Poor Holland, legalizing drugs, buying sex and the ability to kill old folk without repercussions just doesn't cut it anymore.

DO they just buy sex, or do you mean they legalized buying sex? I'm confused.

(personally I think prostitutes are more honest than politicians)
