Playing Oblivion might be a good idea. I'm starting to get silenty-hill nightmares from all the horror games I've played recently. Eek

Last night I had to kill giant attacking rats with the claw side of a hammer, hide from a death ray in a garbage can, and (fail to) escape from melted burnt people. Fun night!

He seems to have gotten a Doctorate in literature.

It's got to be real. You can get in huge trouble in Germany for using the prefix "Doctor" if you didn't earn it. Titles are a big deal there.

Yeah, I remember hearing about that on Language Log a little while back - I forget the story exactly, but someone who could have that title elsewhere in the EU got in big trouble for saying he was a doctor in Germany.

Some researcher at the Max Planck Institute actually got in trouble with the police. It's not a minor civil infraction.

I bought a couple bargain games when I bought my new computer, if I can finally get Portal installed I'll be playing that, also Sid Meier's Pirates.

I saw Portal for $19.95 as a stand-alone game in Target today. I wish I had a Windows machine just so I could play it.

(Wiimake, pls? kthxbye.)

Yeah, I was surprised I could get it standalone. I had heard some great things from some of you guys, Thirith in particular, about Portal.

I picked it up at Circuit City last week for $9.99, but when I tried to register it, it said invalid code, I guess I'm not the only one getting this, it's happening to a lot of the legitimate standalone copies. I should be able to get it up and running tonight though.

Can anybody tell me if I need internet connection every time I play Portal? I'm unfamiliar with this Steam thing? What is it?

Oh and Furi, I will try to keep my limbs from cheating.

I think that Steam only registers it on install, not at every runtime.

Steam is a service from Valve that is for digital distribution of games (like the Half-Life episodes) and online play. Having a Steam account attached to your game makes a lot of sense for things like Team Fortress 2, where the game is multiplayer and hosted on their servers, but for boxed software with no online component, it is an unnecessary annoyance. Others have complained about it.

I'm sure it's a piracy thing is why they make you do it.

Ah, thank you. I think that might clear it up. I don't have an internet connection at home and I was concerned about buying a game that requires me to be connected at all times.

Sortof like Street Fighter vs Marvel only not. Is there anything really new in fighting games, or is it just more of the same now?

There is no force on Earth that will stop me from getting Okami this weekend.
