I'm in the middle of Neverwinter Nights 2 - and it keeps crashing. Four times and one full system reboot so far. Grrrrr.

How do you like the game, though? I've been playing it on and off for a while, and perhaps I've just played too many D&D games, but it's not doing that much for me. I hear the add-on's quite good, though. The story's been compared to Neil Gaiman's stuff once or twice in reviews.

I think I'm playing Metroid Prime 3 too much. I was at a bar Saturday night and kept trying to bring up my -scan- visor to -scan- purple and red disco lights.

I was a bit drunk...

"The other night I dreamed that King George VI was dead, and that Helen Hardinge had somehow or other got herself proclaimed Queen of England, and that I was detailed to go and tell her that it wouldn't do at all; and when I did this, all she said was, 'You see, I am really Queen Mary,' and I said, 'Oh very well' - words to that effect, and woke up.

Last night I dreamed that Eisenhower came to stay with us, and he insisted on being put to sleep in the dog kennel, with a collar and chain about his neck."

When I get a chance, I've been playing NHL 94 or NHL 97 on the Sega Genesis. I forgot how much fun those games were. Oh, and after semester break, I may get into Starflight.

Anybody remember that little gem?

I've really thinned out the herd. I've sold just about everything or it is up on ebay. Eventually the Genesis will go too.

I think I played Starflight 2 way back on the Amiga. Can't say I remember much of it beyond liking it, though.

A week ago I got a new videocard: one of those Geforce 8800GTs. Makes a massive difference when compared to my old card. Has anyone here played the Crysis demo or seen videos? It looks quite stunning, and it's remarkably smooth on my machine now.

I also received Final Fantasy XII this week, but it might be a while till I get around to it. Amazon had it going for cheap, though, which is why I ordered it anyway.

Has anyone here played Stalker, by the way? I'm spending most of my gaming time in the area around Chernobyl right now, and it's an amazingly atmospheric game. (And yes, I gets to shoot dogs! Mutated dogs, and only when they attack me, but still, I get to practice my caninophobia!)

Sorry to hear that. If/when you upgrade, you should be able to get it on budget. Definitely worth it!

Anyone dabbled in Rogue Galaxy? I got it for xmas and am right at the end. I think. The BIG battle seems imminent but I have this weird thing which I call 'clockers remorse', where I don't really want to finish the game I'm enjoying so much. I have the same thing with FFXII, still unfinished and unplayed for the past 6 Months. Does anyone else get that?

On a related note - I had to explain the term 'clocking' to my nephew and niece over the holidays. Explaining how they used to use tumblers to keep score on mechanical pinball machines and if you reached the highest possible score (i.e. 9999) it would roll over to 0000 again and you could say that you 'clocked' the machine. Turns out kids these days either play games that end at a set time/event or have infinite digital score records that will never need to 'clock' over. It made me feel a little old and sad.

Yes. Yes it is.

Although I've spent an embarrassing amount of time playing A Link to the Past on Virtual Console these past couple week. I never had the SNES and I'd never played it. It's really really good. I had no idea that Ocarina of Time was essentially a 3d remake of an earlier game.

I've got a new game console and I'm using it to play 16-bit games from 15 years ago and I'm completely happy with that.

Soul, that's also known as the "Apocalypse Nowish effect." The part right before the final, final end of the game is always the part of the game where the world is laid at your feet and there's no side-quest you can't go on, given time and opportunity.

I've been at that point in Twilight Princess since November. I should probably finish that game off so I can focus on Mario Galaxy. Or classwork.

I've actually not gone past that point with some games. With FFX, by the time I actually finished it the bosses were a joke. I killed the final boss in ten rounds. Ultima Weapon was still kicking my ass, though.

Now see I'd heard that term and didn't know what it was exactly. Now I know. I should get back into FFXII. Last I remember I had refused to go to the last battle, instead choosing to go back to the crystal thingy and run around pointlessly trying to open all the zodiac gates. It got less than fun somewhere along the way.

I'm replaying Thief III, a very atmospheric first-person sneaker, and playing Heroes of Might and Magic 5, a highly addictive drug disguised as a turn-based strategy game with some truly horrific voice acting (and some fairly decent acting, too).

Whenever a task gets unfun, that's when I consult the tip books and websites. If I find that I'm just not getting something fairly basic, I'll go back and fix things. If I find that it really is a pointless task with no significant reward, well, then I find something else to do.

My personal favourite "Apocalypse Nowish" moment is in Grandia II when there's a meteor literally burning in the sky above your head, prepared to impact the planet. Everywhere you go, there it is. Never draws closer, never moves away, just hangs there, checking its watch and waiting for a chance to descend.

Good game, though.

The award for Worst Voice Acting has to go to Star Ocean 2. When you spend days convinced that your party leader's special attack is "pears into peaches," not "tear into pieces," there's a problem.

I've not touched anything for a while, but I keeping being tempted by the charms of Silent Hunter III again...
