That's great news, LoN! And great big caps too Wink

Hahaa thanks.

Its my destiny.

I mean, its a really silly destiny. But its my destiny. And after interviewing Matt from the Fiery Furnaces on Thursday on the phone an in-person interview with some band i've never heard of (and thus don't worship enough to be nervous) should be easy

No, not silly at all! You'll do marvellously well!

And Masque: that's great! Things are looking up!

Congratulations to everyone!

LoN - I became a babbling eejit when I merely got Neil Finn's autograph, but I must have gotten it out of my system, 'cos I was much saner when I talked to Elvis Costello a few months later. This was after gigs, not in an interview sense!

my boring little contribution to this topic: I actually made edible bread last night! pita bread. it was astonishingly easy, a bit time consuming, and they came out too big, but they tasted really good!

Eeeep! Thats so coool.

I've got no problem talking to bands after gigs or hanging out with them between gigs or seeing them around. Heck, I gushed at the lead singer of the Fiery Furnaces after a show and got her autograph already. Its actually doing a formal interview with them thats hard.

I'm also nervous/surprised that the Random Local Indie Band i have to interview isn't one I know anything about, which is rather annoying.

How'd you end up talking to Elvis? He was in town twice lately and I wish i'd talked to him after the gig.

Neil and Tim Finn are around alot, though i don't think i've ever seen them.

Neil won't be around much longer, he's moving to London, to be near his sons (older one has his own bad, younger one is going to some prestigious school in Wales) and he'll be working on a new album.

Split Enz just got done with a short but massive tour in Australia, so, yeah, the Finns are everywhere down there!

I actually spoke to the driver first, I wanted to make sure that Elvis Costello got my gift bag that I had sent back way before the show. I made him a tie and gave him a pen that my Dad had turned from a chunk of spalted apple - it was way cool and all black streaks. The tie had the funky monkey and was purple and green, 'cos purple and green are almost blue. yes, I know that's a horrible pun. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Anyway, the driver said, yes, Elvis got it, you made that? It's really cool. And Pete Thomas had just got in the back seat, so I passed back the ticket and told him, I *love* the way you play drums! And the driver guy said "she's the one who made that tie." I said I just wanted to make sure that it got to Elvis and Pete said, "well, go ask him, he's right there." So, I did and waited a bit and then he signed my ticket and I said, I hope you liked the tie and the pen. He looked up and gave me a big grin and said, "That was you? Thank you very much"

And then I practically floated away. And my Steve Nieve autographed ticket *did* float away - right into the rain grate!

I squeaked and a lady who had been next to me chatting to Pete Best asked what happened? And my husband said she lost her autograph. She said, not Elvis? Well, get back in there! So I did and got another autograph on the CD I had bought at the gig.

Only later did I realise that it was Steve Nieve's auto that got sucked down below.

The pen was actually the coolest thing, hand turned wood sometimes has images or even letters and numbers - this pen (sort of- if you used your imagination) spelled out COSTELLO.

So - I didn't have a massive conversation with him, and I wish I had told him that I think Il Songo is brilliant, but perhaps next time 'round.

I do hope that next time the Finns go 'round I won't be such a spazz!

I didn't notice the tour. It was hard ignoring the constant barrage of TV ads and posters.

:-P

Betchadupa have left Aus too? I saw them once when I thought they were just another random indie band... didn't realize who the parents were. Or do you mean he wants to be near his son in Wales but not the one in Betchadupa?
They were a really fun band. I may have talked to Neil's son since when a band is playing in that venue i usually tell them how cool they are after the gig (Ted Leo was surprised by this)

Unlike Nick Cave, the Finn Brothers wree never big cult faves of mine. I gotta get more into them... i understand they're hugely respected here.

One thing about bands is I have this odd thing where if a girl is in a band I won't ask for her phone number even if I've seen her like 30 times and she went to high school with my best mate.

I'm not sure why.

So... gifts for bands works? At Belle & Sebestian somebody decorated their lyric sheet or setlist or something and ended up dancing on stage with them.

The problem with Elvis is that when you're at an anciant music hall surrounded by tons of well-dressed people you're not likely to hang around outside like at a pub gig...

a wee sister. 4.5 years younger than me. degree in commercial music. she's got her first professional credit on an album now, although the album hasn't been released yet. and she got the highest ever mark for a dissertation on her course, (86%) and then she got the highest ever mark for a final project on her course (75%)

YAY! CONGRATS!

er... if she produces anything culty/indie/cool can i interview her online or something? i gotta build up my portfolio QUICKLY. if she's a Brit like anything she produces could end up blowing up

In other little sibling news I convinced my little brother, who has started charging real companies lots of money to make them real websites, to make me a real website for free (like a place for my writing and blogging and stuff) so I can look semi-professional when doing the writing gig
