So, I just graduated college, and I'm looking to go back to school again. This time, though, I'd like to get a degree (preferably a BA or a masters) in graphic design. (My previous degree is in American Studies - I realize it will be significantly more difficult for me to be accepted into a graduate program.)

I don't really know where to begin looking, though. I know there are some artists who post here, so I figured it couldn't hurt to ask around.

My few requirements:

1. I'd like a program that does not require me to spend another 4 years as a full-time student. If it's technically a four-year program that will accept me as a transfer-type student with credits from my previous schooling, that's fine - I just don't want to have to take a bunch of gen-eds that I've already taken (and some of which I already have a degree in). Ideally, I'd like a two-year arrangement.

2. Location is not very important. A school in the western United States (esp. the Pacific Northwest) would be ideal, but suggestions for anywhere English-speaking would be helpful.

He began to think of people in a new light; how everyone's just little more than that frightened, fragile brain stem, surrounded by meat and physics, too terrified to recognize the sum of their parts, insulated in the shells of their skulls and lower-middle-class houses, afraid of change, afraid of decisions, afraid of pain, stuck in traffic, listening to terrible music.

Maybe look at Cornish? They are up here in Western Washington, and they accept transfer credits to cover their humanities and sciences stuff.

Cal Arts was the first place I thought of when you asked for the West Coast. It looks like you can transfer credits and if you already have an undergraduate degree you only have to take half the required ed classes.

I used to teach at Columbus College of Art & Design and had several students that went part-time. It's a small school, but they have great resources.

My brother graduated from Maryland Institute College of Design and I know someone who did a post-bachelor's program there that focused on Graphic Design. It's a one year, full time program, and it's geared towards preparing people who have majored in a different liberal arts program focus on their intended field of study for grad school.

“Chives?”
“Yes, m’lud?”
“Is that Ms Ephemera hovering over the croquet lawn?”
“Indeed m’lud. She’s marshalled all the haggle-dans. Missy-twigs and vale-nymphs from Claypole Woods. Apparently she intends to tear this house down and dance on the ruins.”
“Well, Chives, you’d better start the car, what? And pack my tennis things too”

Cornish is a great school to look at, along with the Seattle Arts Institute or possibly even Western Washington University. I have a friend up there who is doing graphic design, and she loves the way it's set up. There might be a waiting list for the department, though, so thats something to look in to also.

There was a single blue line of crayon drawn across every wall in the house.
"What does it mean?" I asked.
"A pirate needs the site of the sea," he said, and then he pulled his eye patch down and turned and sailed away.
