This is obviously tweaked, but I thought it was pretty cool - A friend of mine took this in Chicago last weekend:

OK SEE Albany is the center of the freakin world - I swear. I didn't believe it before living there - but it IS.

Come to think of it, I really don't remember how I ended up there. But I do remember it was my first experience with a toll road ever.

Are you saying that the picture is tweaked,
or that your friend was tweaking when he took it?

The picture is tweaked, Den is just odd! Smile

He said it was a reflection from the Bean and he used bubble on Photoshop. If that means anything to anyone other than me. I have no idea what camera he used though.

A sand mandala, created by Tibetan monks over the past few days in the Palace of Westminster. It was blessed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama yesterday.

Tibetan monks spend days creating something like this and then ceremoniously destroy it - symbolic of the idea that all material things are transitory. It's going to be struck, and the sand cast into the Thames, at 10am today.

Cool mandalas, Mark! I didn't realize sand mandalas are so incredibly detailed. How big are they?

I knew the basic principle of sand mandalas, but I didn't know they're destroyed ceremoniously - for some reason, I thought they are just wiped away the moment they're finished, after days of work. Strange perhaps, but that idea always gave me the chills much more than any ceremony could.

That said, I wish I could see it...

Throwing it in the Thames will set a bad example. Next thing you know it will be full of old tires and shopping trolleys!

I saw one being created ...almost 20? years ago. They did two of them, one was finished, one was about half finished... and yeah, it was incredibly intricate. Gorgeous thing. I don't have pictures though. I was also astonished that it just gets destroyed/swept away! I also thought that was just awful, to create something so beautiful and then willfully destroy it. The monk did try to explain, and I did try to understand, but it just didn't filter through.
