I'm pretty meh about him.

There was an anti-Obama commercial on this morning about his supposed ties to Weather Underground, er... the pratically-subliminal message that it was sending out was Obama is EVIL I tells ya! It seemed so very desperate. Which is a criticism of the advertisers, not McCain - I doubt very much he knows ever commercial that gets aired.

but honestly... Weather Underground? I only know about them 'cos some... thing referenced it and I was clueless, so I searched the net.

From what I know of him, Biden seems to be a solid, older influence much like LBJ was to Kennedy. He's a policy wonk, especially when it comes to foreign policy, has a pretty consistent record of supporting gay rights and labor. He's supposed to be a good debator, (one story I've read claimed that the Dems wanted to make up somewhat for what they saw as Lieberman and Edwards' performances in VP debates) although I've also heard that he's been accused of going off message and prone to rambling when speaking.

Other than that, his presence is part of trying to help expand Democrat/Obama appeal in the mid-west. Seems like a solid if unexciting choice on many levels.

I like Biden. Way back during the primaries I checked out the websites of the Dem candidates who were receiving less media coverage and I was generally impressed and pleased with his positions and his record -- I think I matched up with him more than most of the others. He has some faults, but from what I can tell he's pretty well respected in the Senate. He seems to be a WYSIWYG kind of guy, which is a good thing IMO.

I caught the Clintons' respective speeches, which were pretty darn good. Currently there's Obama campaign video on the TeeV. When's he supposed to speak?

Schedule says it was Tim Kaine, but I missed everything up to the last ten minutes or so.

He's pretty freaking cool.

I think it's so unbelievably excellent that we're sitting here at this very historic moment. Not that long ago, no one would ever have believed that a black man or a woman could be a serious candidate.

It makes me sad that it's taken this country so long to get to this point but incredibly happy that we finally have.

I"m happy to be sharing this night and this moment with you (and others on IM). There's something magic about farflung friends listening to the same magic in real-time.

This is WAY better than when the pope died.

Or something.

Why do people love Obama?

I'm not asking this as a McCain supporter or anything, I prefer Obama much so, but why do people like him?

Change, hope. I hear those two words thrown around a lot. But what can he change? Why does he give you hope? If he gives you hope because of change, what is he changing? The government was made so that one branch can't do anything and everything, so what can we be positive that he'll be able to change in this country for the better?

When I asked in another forum why the big Obama poster there supported him, what was the change exactly that he things Obama can do, I got this:

Because he inspires me to have hope, and believe in my country again. The country my father has fought for and got injured for, the same country I have reletives that died for. That's why I support Obama.

Didn't really answer it....

Well I agree with that, but I don't think it's wise to elect a president because he says we need to do stuff. I mean, of course that's a good statement, but he needs to be able to do other things on his own as well.

PS: You have a Goonies quote in your sig, you are amazing. =D

Individual AND mutual responsibility. He's the only candidate I've ever heard make a distinct commitment to both. To me, the combination of the two is the cornerstone of solid community -- we must be responsible for our actions and yet committed to helping the people around us. It's a little more complex stance than most people are willing to take, so to hear a serious presidential candidate say this is very encouraging.
