I'm not as well-versed in Detroit downtown as Mattvid is, no doubt, but I can recommend some decent places to eat around the Troy area, AND Livonia is halfway between Ann Arbor and Detroit. I'm in Ann Arbor on a daily basis because I'm in rehearsals for a play there. Ann Arbor is a charming little city with TONS of artsy things to do: it's a college town, so there's a great night life and plenty of great places to eat. It also has an incredible comic book store, the Vault of Midnight. If you will be in Livonia the weekend of September 11th you can come see my show!
