Since we have so many active photographers on the board now I figured there maybe some interest in this.

I know that both Mary and myself have new digital SLR's and are probably quite keen to test their limits.

So I propose that we organise some sort of weekly assignment. and we can post the results here as well as our various flickr accounts.

Each week someone new can propose the assignment. Be it photos in low light/dark/macro shots/water etc.....

Anybody keen?

I like the idea, and I don't want to hijack the thread too much towards tech, but could you/we say which camera(s) you have? One of these days I will get one to replace my OM-10, and I'd like to know what people have. Just the brand & model, maybe lenses if swappable; again, not a tech-for-art swap thing.

You are a Leprechaun. I'm not even sure what you are. Whiskey-soaked reports from your baffling Isle of Ire raise more questions than they answer. Are you a dwarf? Where's your pickax? If you're an elf, why don't you cobble? You'd think with all your gold, you could invest in some land, perhaps a title, and improve your station. Instead, you hide it in meteorologically-determined locations. You're getting killed on inflation, little friend!

I will try. I am really a lousy photographer, and I am still trying to figure out my picassa account. I have a lumix Panasonic DMC-FS3 (if that means anything) I think weekly 'assignments' might be a good way to learn.

Nikon D60 - this model has been discontinued now.

I have the VR 35mm lens on it.

Back in the day I also had a 35mm, and telephoto lenses on a film version of the nikon, which was from the 60's my mum had bought it new.

I had a canon powershot but was disappointed that it lasted less than a year, as I'm probably a bit rough with my camera's and got "dust" in the lense. It is sitting in pieces on my shelf now.

So yeah I'm a Nikon Gal won't cross the line back to Canon again!

Also I figure we can post a task/topic for the assignment on a monday and people can upload theirs throughout the week, which gives and full week and weekend to do stuff.

Any takers for suggesting a first assignment?

Also thanks for the interest guys!

I'm definitely up for this! I have a Canon EOS 500D, again with the basic kit lens for now but there are a few I've got my eye on when I have the cash.

you know, if you join in you *might* just get better at taking photos - you might just pleasantly suprise yourself and add another arrow to your quiver!

My father is an excellent photographer and he did try very hard to impress those skills into my head. I've been trying, off and on, since I was about 9. I should think that if I was gonna get better, it would have happened by now! Big Grin

This is very true, my early photos certainly were nothing to write home about! But then I got a basic film camera at 8.

I got a nicer film camera for my trip overseas at 15, and 3 years of art classes had improved my compositions. I did a 6 month photography course at 16. Didn't have a camera from 17 onwards. Got the old Nikon SLR in 2002, had it stolen in 2003. Then I didn't have a camera until 2005 when I got a Nikon digital point and shoot which was stolen when I was in London 2007.

Anyway point of all this is that I have had alot of practice and played tons. Also you only get to see the pictures I choose to upload. On trips I take hundreds of photos. Or if I see nice scenery I take 20 pics of the same thing, deleting and thinning I probably get one or two shots that I like!

So join in for sure! With digital camera's your only limitation is memory card size. Plus even the most basic digital camera's do have some fun/fancy settings you can play with.

I'm going to be using my DSLR wannabe camera - Canon S2IS. I should have a lot of setting features (that I want to learn to use better) but I'm stuck with the lens I've got. I would love a Nikon D60, and really wanted to find one on a good deal as they were phasing them out, I just don't have the money for one right now and will undoubtedly miss out.

I've got a FujiFilm point and shoot that I've been having a lot of fun with. Photo assignments could be cool now that I've got free time during the day!

I'll give it a try, though I'm not sure I'll always be able to manage a weekly result. I certainly still have plenty to learn.

My main camera is a Pentax K200d with the 18-55 kit lens and the 18-250 tele zoom. I recently acquired a set of close-up attachments and hope that my tax refund is large enough to get a true macro lens.

*bump*

Apparently I missed the monday start date. So I figure I will just spit out the first assignment.

Macro photography!

Play with your macro function/capabilities, relatively easy take photos of whatever you want and post what you consider is your best effort over the next week!
