I think it'll be OK, it's got a lumpy bit, but doesn't seem broken. The pictures were crap though! Smile

Did you use the standard 18-55 for your shots or play with the close up attachments?

Also how do the attachments work etc?

Library Lady I like te crochet with the light reflecting on the wood surface, do you have links to the photos so we can see larger versions?

Hal, I used the kit lens and the attachments. They are a set of magnifier lenses that screw on to the front of the lens. There are four of them are different powers, and can be used separately or together.

Thats cool! I'd never heard of magnification lenses that could be added, though back at uni we had a camera attachement for all the microscopes, same principle.

I love macro shots! I am rubbish at them because I can't hold the camera steady.. Any tips?

a mushroom shot from last summer that doesn't totally suck, but could be so much better:

a shot from about five minutes ago:

my camera is merely a fuji point n shoot, which is likely part of the problem, but I've tried it with a really good camera and still gotten rubbish results, mostly 'cos I can't hold still.

Fish!

Domi, your first photo reminds me of a shot from an old I Spy book I had when I was little.

Can't wait to get home and try my camera out.

Been playing with the assignment this morning a bit then realized I was using the "MF" feature which does NOT stand for macro focus but rather manual focus. So got some fun pics, but not exactly fulfilling the assignment. Have since found the macro and super macro feature and am trying to get some shots with that. Will upload later tonight, hopefully.

So, my DSLR-wannabe camera has the ability to change all sorts of settings. When messing with the macro setting, what else should I be concerned about? I seem to be taking adequate closeup shots, but getting the crisp focus, getting the blurry backgrounds, that doesn't seen to be happening, likely because the camera is doing some other thinking for me and I don't have other settings quite right.

Can y'all talk about the sort of different settings you're using to get the pics you create? That would be most helpful.

Use a tripod. Or find something else to help steady the camera or you. Don't flap your elbows out, hold them down. I couldn't have shot the pill photo without my tripod.

Since multiple efforts seem welcome, here is my second choice.

My two cents worth, minus tax and fees.

A trick we used to use for shooting video without a tri-pod was to create three points of balance on your body to hold the camera steady. Most often it was two elbows against the chest like Mr. Zombie suggested plus leaning your back or side against something solid. Kneeling works well too for lower shots so that you're not bent over and swaying.
