backstory : Last year my hard-drive kicked the bucket and I lost everything. E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. All my Sims data, all my priceless digital Barta pics, all my passwords.... and all my bookmarks. Had to start from complete scratch. GMYC was a thread looking for a quick and easy way to get folks to recommend various websites that I need in my bookmarks.

And, *cough*, as things go, that thread got deleted in a purge. And now poor JP is in a similar situation where he too NEEDS YOUR COOLNESSES!!! And this time I promise not to delete it.

Post your uber-cool can't-live-without internet links here!

JP, I shall share with you my complete Coolnesses (including both personal and library) as soon as I'm done with my paper. Promise.

*pbbbbt* I was just about to post that.

Though, both Joccy and I have determined it's not very good and could quite possibly be lying to us.

www.seat61.com

This is the essential resource for travelling by train from anywhere in the world to anywhere else in the world. It'll give you routes, telephone numbers, and all that, but it will also post a nice picture of just exactly how comfortable the sleeper train is and if there's a buffet car. I think the guy who runs it (as a hobby - he likes trains) should be given some kind of environmental award for helping people stay off aeroplanes.

(I've just checked the site, and he has been given an award, for encouraging responsible tourism. Yay!)

everybody feed this thread. i'm dying of the boredom that comes of not having anything particular to do for another half hour, and running out of webcomics to look at.

help me.

Limertilly: A pagan deity forgotten by man and therefore banished to the realms of memory and darkness now remembered by a young girl in downtown L.A. in the form of a dream and therefore freed to reap your revenge on the people who discarded you, thereby forcing said girl to learn to use her innate yet awesome powers as a soothsayer to gather forces of the Earth to defy you and once more banish you to your cold, cold prisoooooon

Game:Life, trawling the Internet for good games so that you don't have to!
Kongregate I recommend with a caveat. The site claims to be a gathering place for game designers, where people get all the credit they deserve, but I've heard otherwise. Still, a great list of games.

Snopes.com, still one of the most useful sites on the Internet for finding out whether that e-mail forward really is correct and Corey Feldman and Martin Short are now lovers.
Television Without Pity has saved me from so much bad TV it's not funny. Except that the site itself actually is.
Language Log is the place to be for amateur linguists and friends of the English language alike.

What's that I hear? Time wasting on your hands? Sluggy just hit it's 10-year anniversary as a web comic, and you really do need to start at the beginning ...

a glock-wielding sociopathic talking rabbit, a talking ferret (with a nicer, if somewhat addled, personality), a shape-changing alien, and oodles of geeky references throughout. And it's really well-drawn.

(that's not strictly true; now that he's writing longer and longer story arcs, you could just start at the beginning of the current arc, but that's like deciding to read William Gibson, as long as it's all his books from Spook Country forwards ... )

(Okay, as long as I'm editing and re-editing this post, 'not strictly true' refers to the 'you must read it all, peasant!' dictum, not the 'it's really well-drawn' comment.)

(not his real name)

Hmm. My bookmarks are better on the PC...not even sure where I got these.

A blog of many weird and wonderful things.
A blog of vintage photos.
And the first live performance The River, just because. Ignore the terrible introductory bit, its worth it.

You are a Leprechaun. I'm not even sure what you are. Whiskey-soaked reports from your baffling Isle of Ire raise more questions than they answer. Are you a dwarf? Where's your pickax? If you're an elf, why don't you cobble? You'd think with all your gold, you could invest in some land, perhaps a title, and improve your station. Instead, you hide it in meteorologically-determined locations. You're getting killed on inflation, little friend!
