well, yes, that is how it is in the film industry, and in writing, in general...
i am sad i didn't get to see the coraline clips at comic-con but my friend wanted to leave...and I am happy that no one was able to bootleg the screening because I like that they've been able to keep everything fairly hush hush--I respect that...but I wish I knew someone who had gone so I could drill them! Yeah, a Burton's movie - with Elfman's musics - based on a Neil Gaiman's novel... the perfect team!!! I have read Coraline recently, it will be nice to see this story becoming an animated movie... |

I can't wait for this film! I love Coraline and Nightmare Before Christmas is one of my favorite films, plus They Might Be Giants have always been a favorite band of mine. Can't wait to see what they do with this. There hasn't been any news on it since Comic-Con, has there?

I know the footage on the blog today isn't finished... but I just don't like the look of it. It's a personal thing, I know, and no doubt most people will think it's good... but... meh.
Coraline looks too old for my taste, I pegged her more 7-8 years old. And I really hope the expression on her face changes from Standard Animated Sceptical. I remember reading somewhere that Neil said she was older than people thought... I'll have to look this up. I think it's in the P.S. edition of the book that I used for class in college last semester.

Last year I was lucky enough to see short clips from the Movie at Comicon. What a treat!
There was a young child in the audience that had this wonderful deep giggle when something struck him funny in a scene that reminded me of how my deep dark giggle would echo in theaters when something really made me happy. And then the scene came to the point of seeing the other mother and I think I was the only one that let out that same giggle because she just seemed to be absolutely perfect. The textures in the 3d are amazing! It isn't all that stupid pointy stuff like other films. I felt like I could actually reach out an feel what I was seeing and the colors were so rich! |

Coraline has a cute kid sidekick.
I just watched the online previews for the movie, which was an odd experience, since I'd also just finished reading the graphic novel. In the comic book, P. Craig Russell seemed to be calling attention to the creepy, isolating parts of her story, with lots of empty space around her in panel after panel. The only people she has for company are much older, her slightly distant parents and some elderly, rather strange neighbors. Occasionally a dead child or a talking animal shows up. The movie has a goofy neighbor kid. I generally like Henry Selick's movies, and the character designs look fantastic, but the characters in the film seem to have gotten bigger and wackier and been turned into comic relief. That's what filmmakers do, I guess, when they're putting together a studio movie that every child in the country will want to see. I'm just wondering if something about the story will be lost. |

I just adore this early review:
Damn skippy! ****************************************************************** Superbly Sublime Splendiferous Sterling Shiftmaster of the Realm of Unproductivity and Procrastination ****************************************************************** You are a Player. There are no small parts, only small people, and we suspect that's due to malnutrition endemic to the period. Every night you're a different person, knave or king, man or woman, 875 roles in all. The ones the audience liked got you applause, and the ones they didn't got you pelted rotten vegetables. The theater is a harsh mistress, but you love her dearly. Plus, it beats working for a living! ****************************************************************** 'But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked. 'Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: 'we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad.' 'How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice 'You must be' said the Cat 'or you wouldn't have come here' |

I'm really looking forward to it but why do we have to wait until May, when the USA (among others) get it in February? (pooh)

Hey, I'm new, nice to meet everybody.
Now that I've said that, I'm going to say that I didn't even know about the book before I heard about the movie. I was lucky enough to see clips of it at Siggraph this year (with 3D glasses on, no less) and was floored by what I saw. Later I found the novel at the library and was even more impressed. Ever since then I've been geeking out over the whole movie and practically chewing my fingers off waiting for February to come. That is all. |
