My roomate was saying that he felt there should be a disturbance... but there wasn't, ant it was strange. I agree... the world should feel different, but in my little corner it somehow doesn't. I wish we could feel that kind of pain- maybe humanity would be more, well, human.

Horrible amounts of people die all the time. I don't dare even to imagine what it would be like to sense every untimely death on this planet.

I was staying in a sort of hippy community when it happened. A few of the people there reported feeling a disturbance in the force, or words to that effect, but I think they were talking bollocks. Nice people, but they sometimes seemed to have become slightly unglued.

They would have to be some real pseudo wanker hippies if they only feel a disturbance when rich Americans die.

Jesus that's harsh!

I see your point though. I've never been quite sure about hippies.

Melancolia, don't you know, it's just because they're jealous the USA spend their time saving the world's ass just like that, for no other reason than to be nice...

Sept. 11th in American Gods? Sure it isn't. It has been plenty discussed in World's End. But it does not belong to Flame Wars: there have no been attacks.

Stop the revolution!!

Other than saying that all the people who died in the WTC were rich Americans not worthy of attention and that the attacks happened because the US deserved.

I, too, dislike the thinking of Americans who are completely dumbfounded that anyone could hate their country enough to do such a thing, but please keep the dislike directed towards the thoughts and the infrastructure that fosters them, and let the dead rest in peace.

Good, my dog found the chainsaw.

Disclaimer:
I don't dislike Americans or the US. I live here, my wife is Americans. Most Americans I know are nice people. I have only grief and respect for the victims of 9/11. I don't think the US, or any other country, deserves this.
My previous post was refering to the attitude of some Americans, notably in the media, that they are champions of freedom. I recently saw a commentator on TV saying that the US saved Europe's ass single-handedly in two world wars. I'm sorry, but that's not the case. They helped. A lot. Mainly in WW2. But don't reduce all Europeans to weak, stupid people who would still be living in caves under communist rule if it wsn't for the US. That just pisses me off.

Here's a married man. He works as a substitute teacher - sometimes he teaches one thing, sometimes another. Like all men, he does both good and bad deeds. One day, one of his students kills his wife.

Now, we can talk about how the student is bad. We can talk about how the man taught the student. But have some tact while talking around the wife's grieving friends and children, because there is a time and a place for different types of talk.

This is not the place. Now, you should know that I'm not here to censor frank talk about the subject - we've had threads about America's pride and poor choices before. World's End is a good place, but so is flame wars, because throwing a tragedy back in the face of someone who was there is bait for a fight.

(I know it's an older thread, but I didn't have the ability to move threads back then. I don't even think I was mod when this thread started)

If the Bear wants to start a thread to discuss that date, fine by me. If not, fine by me too. World's End, FLAME WARS, I don't care.

It's not the place, maybe, but it wasn't me who revived the thread and threw it in the face of someone who was there.

Was I rough? Obviously, and all I can say is that the day this reply appeared was the beginning of a dark (not bad, dark) stage of my life. I wasn't in the mood for ignorant (or something that looked very much like that) USAnian patriotism.
