So far as I can see, it's not a metaphor for anything. I think it's an actual legend about Anansi, and told just to give you an idea of who he is, his character.

And it's also an important message for the "underdog" old gods not to lose hope.

What would have happened if all the gods started
blasting away at each other at Stone Mountain Georgia? Would people have fled in terror or would they have launched mass attacks on the gods screaming as what happened in Jerusalem 2,000 years ago? That is, hordes of enraged Americans roar "Crucify THEM!!! Crucify THEM!! They've NO place in our culture, lives or world-view!! Who needs them???!!!" Feedback, people? |

Quite possibly. Something I find amusing, though is that so many people say now that the old legends and beliefs have no place in our lives, and yet we're surronded by them everyday, from the names of the days and months to cstoms at holidays.
Everyday we speak the names of old gods and keep alive the memories of dead Emporers. And some small spark of them stays alive. James Wandering, but not lost. "You are a Knight Errant. All of the fun of rescuing damsels, and none of the paperwork." |
