a movie eh?, that would be a really good idea, but who would watch it, but a lot of ppl are not aware of neil gaiman, i thnk there would be more of a response to the story then to the man who created it. More praise for the director than then the author, and more love towards the actors and actresses then the guy who origionaly casted them.
its a great idea, but who would the applause go to? hahhahahahaha as for the people to play the parts, for shadow himself?...daniel cudmore or bruce willis, they both have the right build and are very good at cocking a attitude. For laura...i can see kate winslet or hilary swank...lol i have my reasons wednesday...id pick...hahahaha sean connery, but hed have to work on a more specific accent |

Anansi has to be Lenny Henry as not only would he capture Anansi perfectly, when Anansi boys is adapted, he can play fat charlie as well. (mike myeres/ eddie murphy style)

God, I know it's crazy, but for the longest time I had a real-life counterpart for Bigby Wolf from Fables walking around and being Shadow. I know he doesn't have as much hair as Bigby, but I couldn't keep that image from crawling into my mind. The real-life counter part to that, I can't say. Karl Urban works for me.
As another, not real, counterpart I imagined Sam, my favorite character, as Alyx from Half-Life 2, or a younger version of someone looking a lot like her. This template fit with me and stuck with me for the entire book. I wish I could find a real-life counterpart for her as well. Most of the other characters were mostly of my own imagining, but isn't that the fun of books? I really like some of your picks, Hal Jordan, specifically Wednesday and Loki's. Those two actors are exactly how I picture the characters. |

Lots of interesting choices...of course, I'll have to toss in my two cents on the subject.
Shadow = Viggo Mortensen Laura = dunno...yet Wednesday = Stellan Skarsgard Czernobog = Peter Stormare (c'mon - PERFECT!) Mad Sweeney = Dylan Moran Cheers and Happy New Year to all! |

IMO: Viggo is too pretty and doesn't have enough physical "heft" for Shadow--thought the same re: his casting as Aragorn. His chin/lower face is too short, giving a sweetness to his aspect that doesn't fit these roles. He DOES have the coloring (skin/eyes/hair) that I imagine.
Granted, Baldur (the god, not Shadow--but of course then Shadow too) also was reputed to be handsome...but there's kinds & degrees. The Rock I have issues with because he looks too Mediterranean for a Norse god. Shadow shouldn't have golden skin. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Taoist "Wooo-weeee!" Hmmm...nope, I don't buy it. Viggo isn't sweet (IMO). However, he is Danish. Which makes him suited to play Shadow. And, if he has a cheesy center, probably pretty tasty.

Dominic Purcell is all you need for Shadow. Check him out in Prison Break.

Obviously I have way too much time on my hands, but a bit of comparison:
Viggo was born in NYC 1958, American mother, "businessman" father. (From his bio at http://allstarz.hollywood.com/viggo/info.htm He also lived in South America from age 2-11, then in USA & Denmark when older.) Dominic was born in England 1970, NORWEGIAN father, Irish mother, lived in Australia, "Purcell was a bored landscaper who decided to attend a drama school." (Remember how in Monarch of the Glen Shadow as Beowulf released the Norwegian vikings and the Norwegian hulder Jenny because he shared their blood...that casting would be a bit of neat symmetry.) Viggo, in addition to being way too old for the role, has a very self-conscious expression when being photographed that seems to be the opposite of Shadow's sort of living in his head a lot. Examples: http://allstarz..com/viggo/013.shtml http://allstarz.hollywood.com/viggo/019.shtml http://allstarz.hollywood.com/viggo/018.shtml But to be fair, he was a MUCH better choice for LOTR than the original Aragorn, Stuart Townshend! Maybe we should post a poll of the top 5 potential Shadows; then Neil can take the consensus to his fancy meetings with the casting director when the moment is right. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Taoist "Wooo-weeee!" Oh jazzcat, you're probably right. Honestly, it doesn't matter even a little to me (unless I was really hungry). I'm more interested in Wednesday, Czernobog and the other supporting cast....that's really where this story would come to life, IMO! BTW, I had to force myself to stay awake during LOTR - YAWN - I get sleepy just thinking about it...
