Hi. My school required an in-depth study and report on any book of choice for the summer, and obviously, I chose American Gods. However, as I was reading page 280 of the paperback edition, Wednesday mentions that the "opposition" will hold off until spring because of the dead months. I am naturally assuming that it's symbolic, as winter usually= death or something like that, so they really can't accomplish anything? But the book also says that Shadow hopes his vague idea is wrong... which signifies to me that it's something worse that what I think.
If someone explains that passage more clearly, thank you.

back in the old days, armies would battle in the spring, summer and fall months. They would not battle in winter because it takes more energy to fight in winter than any other season.
