I got this book when it came out and decided today to drop in and say how much I love the book and to thank Neil as well. He was in the Bay Area when the book first came out, I couldn't go but he did through the store where he was reading sign a copy to my mom. I gave it to her for her birthday, needless to say she loved it.

Neil, you rock

So I'm living under a rock, and hadn't read this fine piece before now. Sue me. I'm very behind on my pleasure reading...

Anyways, as always I enjoyed greatly. Thanks for writing it. (That mesage sounds bland, but it is sincere.)

I read this book for my freshman english class, and by God I loved it. Books are always. like food, much worse when one is force-fed them, but for once I actually enjoyed a cirriculum book. I am an Art History major and somewhat of an amatuer mythologist, and I found nearly every reference to mythology (from Mithras to Johny Appleseed) to be on target, which I was very pleased with. Giaman's imagination still runs rampant throughout the story, but he does it in a way that it seems plausable. I was also plesed to find out that he worked on other things I've enjoyed like the Sandman and Princess Monoke'. I didn't know much about him going into the reading of American Gods, but now I am undeniably hooked.

I read the book in an English Comp and Lit class. I go to college in the middle of Illinois at Eastern Illinois University, which is within "spitting distance" as my professer put it, of quite a few locations in this book making it that much easier to slip into the story.

Sweet deal. I think I might have to move and study at your college.

Hey Loeke,I thought Springfield was the center of Illinois. It seems to always be in the center crease of any map or atlas. I also enjoyed the sense of place in reading AG. The scenery on most Illinois 2-lane highways is corn and beans or beans and corn depending on the fields and the rotation. The juxtaposition of "foreign" gods and something as heartland as central Ill. is part of the novel's charm.
