At one point in the novel, there is a discussion (or, perhaps lecture is a better word) about America not being one community. When I first read it, I just kept on reading, because I was enjoying the book, and now that I want to spend more time thinking about it (community organization is a passion of mine) I can't seem to find it. If anyone knows where in the book it is, I'd be greatful for a hint or 3.

Is it the part where Shadow and Wednesday are in Chicago, visiting the Three Sisters and Czernobog, and Wednesday calls the Statue of Liberty a whore?

I don't think so... I definitely remember that part, and I've mentioned it a few times to other people in conversation, but I can't remember where in the book it takes place... maybe when Shadow was getting ready to move to Lakeside.
It was probably part of the several quiet little chats that Wednesday has with Shadow... since there's a few of them in the book, it might be tough to track down. James Wandering, but not lost. "You are a Knight Errant. All of the fun of rescuing damsels, and none of the paperwork." |
