I feel like I just didn't understand this story....I mean, I got that they were in some shared reality, they told stories, and that might be it.
Here's where the spoilers come in. Is all this going on because Morpheus died as Sandman? I know he dies later, and that could be the event that caused the "reality storm", something that had such a strong effect. Then, a new Dream taking over fixed it. Even then, why were only certain people there? I guess an explanation would do me good, thanks. _____ Et d'une chanson d'amour, la mer a bercé mon cœur pour la vie. ...I'm a man who enjoys his taffy. |

Spoiler alert still in effect.
As far as I can understand, Alex, Reality Storms happen when a great event in reality itself has occurred, is ocurring or will occur soon. The death of Endless like Dream would most certainly trigger one of them, since Endless are so integral to the Universe -- or at least are the Universe's children. In that sense, or at least from what I saw past, present and future occur in a totality with regards to Reality Storms and the events that make them. And as for the next part of your question -- why were only certain people there? Well, why should they have not been there? Why do some travelers meet one place, and others meet at another? Why do some get to their destination and others become lost along the way? You could argue that these people were there because of the Storm and some very pressing stories that they need to get out -- or in the case of some to realize that they don't have, or need to find. A convergence of these forces might be the answer you're looking for -- that or the people were at the right (or wrong) places at the right (or wrong) time. That's my take on it anyway. ______________________________ Do not leave me with a bowl of anything for an extended period of time. |

I definitely get the whole reality storms happen regardless of time, just them all being there was odd because it was them, and not everyone. I mean, why them, but the idea of them all having stories to tell was a good reason for me. Could just be people traveling that don't feel fulfilled or need to get their tale out. Thanks though, that definitely helped.

Well, it might not be that only certain people were there, it was a pretty big place, but the narrative can only contain so many stories. ______________________________

I thought it was just Mr Gaiman having a little stab at Chaucer's Canterbury tales - why people are there, or even where there is, isn't particularly important, it's what they do once they are there - and maybe, these were the ones with the best stories to tell - or maybe there are a million inns, each with a disparate group, telling their own little cycle of tales?
cause and effect: the best often die by their own hand just to get away, and those left behind can never quite understand why anybody would ever want to get away from them. Charles Bukowski Septuagenarian Stew |
