We shouldn't assume incest is fundamentally wrong even on the mortal plane. The way I see it, it's only wrong if one part is forcing the other (which is always wrong) or if children come out of it (which is pretty easy to avoid).

Gaiman is the bestest EVARIE! Eh, I mean Sandman. ^_^;;

Even that is only a bad idea because it is genetically risky compared to outbreeding - for those of us that have genes.

On a biological level, it's definitely wrong. Mixing like DNA is bad.

Morally, I suppose justification could be made, but it's probably best to accept it as a Western social tabboo and go from there.

Oh, I'm going to the special Hell.

Since they didn't evolve, I doubt if the Endless have DNA. Which makes you wonder where the DNA for their human children (Orpheus and Rose's mother) came from.

the Endless might not have DNA or be above human tabboos, but they got their own... Although they are above humans, they are not above EVERYTHING, as we know they are bound by rules not set by them.
For example, we know a mortal cannot love an Endless or that the Endless are exposed to the Kindly Ones' rage if they spill family blood (and so it is clear that they do have some sense of family rules and tabboos), and remember all that stuff about the funeral and the Necropolis -those rituals have not been set by the Endless, but by something above them.

I think the Dream/Death relationship is way away from incest on any level. It always came across to me as being the kind of sibling relationship that tends to come out in big families, where some of them just hang on to each other. She's hyper protective of any of them who seem vulnerable and drops it on any of them who aren't - much like any elder sibling who's had a lot of responsiblity from early on. Hence the way she takes care of Dream and Delerium and tends to slap down Desire. Its not incestous. Its your original big sister. I have friends (big family) where one of them would do anything for the youngest, who in turn would do anything for them. They're just really close, always have been. Seen it happen in friends too. People who are just very close and get on - or don't and yet would never even contemplate anything more than the platonic.
