quote: Hmmmmm... further thought convinces me this could be another move in the game between Dream and Del, like the bit with Norton I. This would be more like Death trying to prove to Dream that somebody CAN learn and change from their mistakes.... Hmmm... Or i could write a story where the Endless must battle a giant Stay-Puft marashmellow man. |

Hey, its no stupider then having a pudgy author with no acting training play his main character... hell, thats one of the dumbest ideas i've ever heard. Its one thing if the author's also a good actor, like... um... somebody else, or loooks really distinctive, like Alan Moore... but thats like saying J.R.R. Tolkien should have played Frodo Baggins, since its his char

Not really, since i'm still trying to figure out why Morpheus had that name... he lead Neo OUT of the "dream world", not into it... unless the "real world" was just another Matrix, which it wasn't... except there's an essay on the offical Matrix site which talks about the first movie in terms of learning lucid dreaming, which Morphy taught to Neo... so it makes sense on that level.
But at a certain point, i stopped caring. Anyway, Hugo Weaving's got experiance playing cocky immortals, so yea, he's in... and he SCARES me in a slight way, even in LOTR, which i think is a good quality... Morpheus is supposed to be FRIGHTENING 'cause he's so inhuman. Heh... at the beggining... when he breaks out of the globe: "Hello, Mr. Burgess"... and he'd say it in this "badass" voice. (too bad he's gone back to living in Oz and making little local movies, apparently...) |

Anyway, i figure i'll mention my fave bit of "stunt casting" ever: in MEMENTO, an actor from LA CONFIDENTIAL (Guy Pearce) is tricked by two actors from THE MATRIX (Carrie Ann Moss, and Joey Pants, i think... the guy who played Cypher)

Well Trent Reznor got the exactly same face and style than Morpheus... you can't take somebody else.
And for Daniel, I see more someone else than david Bowie, David IS lucifer, no ones else can't play Lucifer. Maybe leo di caprio or maybe not.. that blond guy that played in Elephant... mumm Péné ------------- P.E.N.E. Yeah know?
Trent Reznor would be a good pick. I still say Gaiman would do well, if they were choosing based on physical likeness. Trent Reznor has that ede to him though, every time I hear his voice. |

If I were to pick actors Lets see,
Dream - Ethan Hawke or Gary Oldman or even Iggy Pop HAHAHA Death - Jaime King Desire - Annie Lennox or Uma Thurman Despair - Kathy Bates Delerium - Cameron Diaz(Just bubbly enough to pull it off I think) Destiny - Ron Pearlman Destruction - Michael Clarke Duncan or Alfred Molina For supporting, make Robin Williams and Bill Murray, Cain and Abel. The Corinthian - Vin Deisel (Has the right attitude...put some hair on him though) Merv Pumpkinhead - Steve Buscemi Lucien - Woody Allen Lucifer - Brad Pitt Mad Hattie - Frances Bay Nada - Jada Smith or Halle Berry Emily Perkins - Naula without glamour ******************* They Think They Know Who I Am All They Know is I love to Kill |

Let's make this more difficult - the actors' names for the Endless have to start with a D as well...
... although, having said that, doubt that Danny DeVito would make a good Dream. |

But Danny DeVito might make a good Despair.
Adrian Brody could play Dream I think. He's tall, dark and appealing. - Soul I want you To be free Don't worry About me |

After seeing Bowie last night (from a distence, sure) i don't think he's too old to play Dream... hell, he'd be perfect. And judging by the number of goths at the show (and, er, the multiple threads about his pants on this board) he's got appeal with the target audience.
Dream or John Constantine, since he's not glammed out anymore... his current version might be good for Constantine, since Sting is now, er, really lame |

For me the actor who would play Dream would have to be English or put on an English accent at least.

I wish you would stop casting people who arent actors. Firstly they wouldnt be as good, and secondly the question of casting becomes ridiculous if a grain of realism isnt maintained.
However. i think Johnny Depp could very well play any of the parts you have mentioned, but if i was in charge, i would try to get him to play Marvin Pumpkinhead. Reading the last couple of pages of posts it strikes me that guy pierce could play the corinthian. he has a certain toothiness about him. i dont think you need to worry about dream. in a few years i'll be famous and respected enough, and i might accept the part. as for the adapting of the graphic novels into a script: i think some quite significant manipulation would be needed, it wouldnt be able to be very true to the original material. i would go for a simple tragic plot, and the graphic novels tend, like most comics, to be on a more continuous basis. i think for a film, some finality is needed. but my screenwriting theories are still in an early stage. so long ~ The Somnambulist of the Polar Bear Cartel ~ ______________________________ I wish *I* was Spiderman |

Going with another LOTR alumnus....
Why couldn't Orlando Bloom pull off Dream? I think he'd do quite well, because Dream also needs the look of compassion, as well as ambivalence (sp?) and to appear mystic as well as all encompassing... Trager. |

well i don't wish to make myself unpopular, but the obvious answer to "why couldn't Orlando Bloom pull off Dream?" is "because he's not a very good actor"
his style just about sufficed for LOTR but started to grate a bit by the third one. He was exactly the same in Pirates of the Carribean, which was not so appropriate. I suppose his sort of mythical rpg fantasy style could work in a way for dream, but i think that dream needs to have a more modern, less innocent pretty-boy feel. also i dont think bloom can act. ~ The Somnambulist of the Polar Bear Cartel ~ ______________________________ I wish *I* was Spiderman |
