Peter Wingfield looks like Morpheus to me. You might have seen him in the Highlander tv series as Methos or in the American version of Touching Evil (originally a UK series). The picture I stuck in here seems unviewable so try looking him up on <www.imdb.com> which has a couple picture links, if you're curious. He may have been mentioned before but there it is. |

Just Googled Peter Wingfield. Wow!! If he can act, he certainly has the look.

I happened to think that trent reznor in some pictures looked a lot like morpheus. now if he was a tad taller and could act...

Winfield, from what I've seen of him, can act, and he also has a great voice, certainly essential for the Sandman. I don't know, though . . . I think he might be a bit old, and despite a fond spot I have for him, I'd be ambivalent about choosing him.
James Wandering, but not lost. "You are a Knight Errant. All of the fun of rescuing damsels, and none of the paperwork." |

Verbatim re-post from locked topic:
Destiny: Even before people were thinking about bringing Sandman figures to the big-screen, I'd always thought that head poking out from under the dusty-brown hood looked an awful lot like Max Von Sydow. I also think his demeanor and acting sensibilities perfectly suit this roll. Dream: He has this wonderfully gaunt and lanky look... a statuesque face with angles in all of the right places. I thought his performance in The Pianist had a nice stoic quality to it and really, what other word would best describe Dream but "stoic"? http://www.paris-premiere.fr/static/eve/cannes2002/films/img/fiche_film/film23_1.jpg Death: Firstly, she looks the part, plain and simple; waif-thin, elfin ears, an achingly beautiful smile and she can be just as charming as Death when she wants to be. Go on, check out Beautiful Girls or the upcoming Garden State and tell me that she hasn't already played the part. http://www.holycow.com/dreaming/visions/death1.jpg Desire: At first glance, she comes off as too distinctly feminine, true. Though, if you look a little closer you can see how she might be able to inter-change between a handsome female and a pretty-boyish look (anyone see Bend it Like Beckham?). Plus, she could be Natalie's twin and I think that would be a really cool way to have Death and Desire actually look like family members. http://www.queuedtalent.com/postimg/bigkeira.jpg Despair: I'd just as soon cast an unknown, if truth be told. However, for the sake of this cast-list I think this pairing is pretty fair. Destruction: Destruction needs to be a larger than life actor, an actor who takes up half the frame no matter where you put the camera and I'll be damned if Brian Blessed doesn't look the part. Hell, I think Gaiman himself has said as much. http://comic-academic.00server.com/destruction.jpg Delirium: Again, I'm leaning more toward an unknown here... I think Delirium needs to operate on a clean-slate basis but again, I think this is a pretty fair pairing. http://tourniquet.rydia.net/images/pf/delirium.jpg Daniel: Daniel, as the new Dream, would also need that stoic quality but in a different way than Morpheus personified the word. Not distant so much as reverant. There's something about the bones in Cillian Murphy's face that achieve this, in my humble opinion. |

Imagine how much weight you'd have to put on to play Despair! I don't think a fat suit could evr look natural. Still, I'm sure it'd be a fun experience. It's hard to find a fat celeb, so it'd be nice to give an unknown a chance, or someone who doesn't mind pigging out.

what about adrian brody? The 75 Delirians? Umm well, number 2 is off sick, 38 is suffering from a mild case of sanity, and 74 has run off to the world of men to spread sparkly gigglepops to their drab civilization. Is she nuts? Oh yes, she scored very highly on the entrance exam! |

What do you think of Christopher Walken playing Destiny... I think he has the voice to do it. He can be so cold...

Bob Geldof is too old now, but back in the Boomtown Rats days he would have been awesome, although the voice would have to be dubbed. He's a singer, he's got a great voice, but it's just not suited for someone like Morpheus.
But damn, has he got the hair! |

Daniel Day Lewis is the best I've heard yet. Don't forget that Dave McKean actually modelled the original Dream (or his original version) on Bono. He's a little old for the role now, but in his prime he would've been perfect. Whoever it is will have to have a face that conveys DEPTH.

I always thought they should have a variety of actors play Morpheus, just as his appearance changed in the series. I vote, too, for Reznor, and I hadn't thought of Daniel Day-Lewis, but that photo convinced me. But a number of different Morpheuses would be best, IMO. Dunno how many actors would be willing to share the limelight, though. And yes! David Bowie IS the Morningstar!

I like Day-Lewis as Morpheus. The fact that he's one of the greatest actors of all time couldn't hurt.
I like Cillian Murphy for Daniel as well. That's good casting. |

Ben Affleck as Dream. JUST KIDDING!!!
Sorry if this had been said, but Winona Ryder would have been a charming Death about 10 years ago when she was doing cool offbeat movies... pale, waifish and with a happy smile. But isn't Death supposed to appear 17? And Dream even younger... Claire Danes has the wrong nose (for the part! not in general) and no acting range (IMO). smartbunny.net |

I know this has been mentioned, but David Bowie would have been perfect for the part in his younger years.

I just barely joined but I have read every issue of Sandman and I have a few people in mind. Michael McManus from Lexx fame would be a good Dream. Patrick Stewart or Anthony Hopkins can make a good Destiny. The actress that played Trinity in the Matrix films, looked like Desire. As for the others, I haven't decided on yet.
