I guess Johnny Depp would be great, Hugo Weaving is too fixed with Matrix, it bothered me even in the LOTR movies. And of course Daniel Day Lewis would make a perfect selection.

ROBERT SMITH! ROBERT SMITH! ROOBEERRRTTT SMITH!

my problem is that every time i hear his name i want to sing the song from South Park and summon him to defeat MechaStreisant

Hugo Weaving would work for me

How about a little flavour?

Have you seen "House of Flying Daggers" or played "Onimusha 3"?

Takeshi Kaneshiro...

if you want 'stone cold badass with a sick sense of humor', howabout Takeshi Kitano from Zatochi and 'Takeshi's Castle' (Most Extreme Elimination Challenge in the US)

his face is almost expresionaless, but he does great things with it. and he's both scary and funny

hmm... too warm for Dream...

I love "Beat" Takeshi Kitano!! He is a badass, but a wee bit old for Dream.

Kaneshiro is sure pretty (maybe he can be Dream in the Dream Hunters, with Kitano as the monk).

What is this "Takeshi's Castle' you speak of?

Although I think Johnny Depp is a tad bit over-rated, I think he would make an excellent Morpheus.

What about Death? I was thinking possibly Nicole Kidman or Natalie Portman.

every time i see Reeves on the tv, doing an interview or on a show or clips of him from Constantine, i just think: "oh yes. he's the one to play Lord Dream and no one is going to convince me otherwise.."

The only person I could see playing dream (and I've thought about this more then I care to admit) is Adrian Brody. Physically he's perfect and he definatly has the talent.

Takeshi Kaneshiro as Dream from DH is absolutely brilliant! I lurve Takeshi!!

I'm posting, even before reading some peoples' comments, but my gut reaction is to say Daniel Day-Lewis. He's tall. Dark. Mysterious. Bad-tempered. And if you look at his face, the nose and high cheek-bones, he fits Dream well. Plus, he's my favorite actor, so naturally, I'm biased.

Clive Owen. I think his image on SinCity looks like the Sandman's.

So it would be a match between Depp & Brody, definitely. Rhys Meyer ? Why not ?

Another vote for Brody here, he would be perfect indeed. As much as I like Clive Owen, Ewan McGregor or even Johnny Depp, they're all too material, solid, positive people to play someone like the Sandman. Only Adrian Brody could pull it off.

I always thought Daniel Day Lewis too - but he's retired from the movie business - he came out of retirement for Gangs of New York, but whether he could be persuaded to do so again is another matter. And he may be too old. Right, what are the requirements? - height, leanness, pallor, intense eyes, deep voice and stern demeanour. So, who fits the bill? Keanu Reeves? - I know, he was a terrible Constantine, but that was bad casting, more than poor acting. Got it - the young Irish actor (okay, I'm biased, I'm Irish) who played Scarecrow in Batman Returns and was in The Wind That Shakes the Barley and Red Eye. Dammit, what's he called? Begins with a C. It'll come to me. He's got the right kind of intensity, can act, looks the part and was pretty bloody creepy in both Red Eye and Batman Begins - downright terrifying in the latter when he was on that horse. See, I think a younger actor is required, because the Endless are supposed to be ageless, and I never saw Morpheus as being in his late 40s or early 50s, like Daniel Day Lewis is. I even think Keanu Reeves would be too old. As far as Bowie is concerned - well, he's Lucifer, isn't he? - Neil himself says so in his notes accompanying the rough character sketches at the back of, I think it's Preludes and Nocturnes - or was it somewhere else? Going senile. I mean, who else could play Lucifer as Neil depicts him - like Milton and, especially, Blake, did? Got it! Cillian Murphy! That's the boy to play the Dreamking.
