Strike what I said before. Christopher Eccleston would be phenomenal as Dream.

Wes Bently. He was Black Heart in Ghost Rider, and the only thing I could think of while watching him, was that he could be Dream.
It doesn't matter whether or not I'm crazy, sanity after all is a matter of perception. What matters is whether or not I'm *right*.

Hi, I'm new. Sort of. I was here for a little while ages ago, calling myself Real Gone. Nice to be back. Anyway, if there was a film of Sandman I think Tim Burton and Jonny Depp should do it. With Helena Bonham Carter as Death, obviously.

Okay, I skipped about 12 pages so I have no idea what most people have said. Anyway, Black wings you're absolutely right about the Burton, Depp, Bonham-Carter thing. But I have to say, that would have worked if Sandman was made into a movie ages ago. Depp and Bonham Carter would have been perfect when they were younger but now, they just don't fit the bill anymore. Burton could still do it though or maybe the guy who directed Pan's Labyrinth.
For Morpheus, my vote is also on Jonathan Rhys Myers (Did I spell that right?) Anyway, I've seen most of his movies and he definitely have what it takes. He has the looks, the eyes and the movements of Morpheus but I'm still not one hundred percent sure about him. Something is still not right. Hmmm, Christian Bale as Lucifer sounds fun! I can't wait to see that!
Ooh wait, how about Stuart Townsend? I know I know, not that good of an actor but he definitely had that Morpheus-like quality in Queen of the Damned and even in LXG. Pale skin, dark hair, muscular body, good voice, looks perfect in black. Not old yet not too young either.

Orlando Bloom. Scared ya, didn't I? P.S.: And I think Lucifer has to be more beautiful than handsome. Christian Bale is too much of a rugged, strong guy (or emaciated skeleton, depending on which film you watch). P.P.S.: While I acknowledge that the Hellblazer movie was a disgusting mess for most people here, I thought that they got the angel casting right - Tilda Swinton made for a great Gabriel, I thought.

A young Rutger Hauer would have been a great Lucifer, I think.

Swinton as either Morpheus or Lucifer is brilliant. She was wasted as Gabriel in CONSTANTINE. Depp, now, may actually be more Luciferian than Morphian at this point. I'm sure he'd channel Bowie the same way he's channeling Richards for Jack Sparrow. Though I don't really like his acting, Orlando Bloom has a look that fits. Personally, a new actor that I think could pull it off without a lot of baggage from past roles would be James McAvoy.

If they wanted to do the character's representation justice, then there'd have to be more than one actor, since Dream changes according to who perceives him. They could get away with single actors for the other Endless (since they wouldn't have the same amount of screen time), but a non-changing Dream would be a bit of a disappointment. But that's what they'd have to do for the cinema audience, because they'd want someone to root for, and if that someone keeps changing shape, it's difficult to connect to them. Apart from that, though, I don't think that Dream should be acted by a young actor. He must be able to convincingly convey age, and acting old is extremely difficult for someone in his 20s.

I agree that's a good first instinct, but looking back through the books and stories, Dream never acted much like an adult. In fact, I think the main attitude of the character was as if he never grew out of his "too cool to care" Goth adolescent phase. I think the Endless might be somewhat changeless as well so, depending on how the filmmakers envision it, it might make sense if a 25 year old played him.

Ah Desire... fickle as he/she can be. It's mostly just a question of "one man's meat another man's poison", isn't it. As the French say, des goûts et des couleurs, which depends entirely on your tastes. All Swinton needs is a good tan and some flesh on her, it seems (prolly change her hair colour for the role too). Otherwise, nothing seriously wrong with her desirability quotient, imo. Wes Bentley as Dream... now that's an idea.... *thumbs up* and H. Bonham-Carter as Death? Gawds, she would just come off as far too flighty or too annoying. Or maybe that's just me. *shrugs*
