James Masters would probably make a good constantine (I suggested him for the Constantine film) but I think he would be even better as the Corinthian.

I've no idea who could play the Sandman but I was impressed with the pic of a younger Geldof - didn't know he had it in him smile

If they do an animated movie then Alan Rickman has got the perfect voice (sigh) but for live action Trent Reznor is the closest to the look and moodiness i see in Morpheus, Plus he looks good in those Dream-ish type cloths.

James Marsten is yummy but not as dream. Definitely room for him in the piccie though.

Trent Reznor was good just for the intensity of his eyes but his face is not angular enough.

Now Daniel Day-Lewis has the cheeks and the compelling eyes though we know they would have to be dark. Would they be so pretty then? He also seems more muscular than the lithe Dream.

My first pick would have to be Johnny Depp. He has the facial structure, aquiline and almost delicate, his skin can be so perfectly pale and his overall bodily frame fits Dream to a tee sans height. He is a bit short but camera angle can fix that. Think of him in Sleepy Hollow, Edward Scissorhands.. no matter the movie, shaved, goatee'd, bearded, long hair or short he has the many faces of Morpheus wrapped inside him. But yes I agree.. before he gets too old for the part.

Neil? Neil is Dream.

You could easily employ makeup to make Trents face "angular" enough. An I think he would be perfect for Morpheus after watching the "Closer" video. He is Morpheus.

Oh Yes.. I can realllly see Morpheus singing "I want to F*** you like an animal". Closer. -peals of giggles-

The mind is a terrible thing of waste.

not just because he was on the cover of the first issue, i've always thought peter murphy had the look. a bit short (not that that matters in films, he would always look taller), and now a bit old for the part perhaps. but he always had a similar atmosphere about him, even tho he's a bit of a chameleon, like his predessor, bowie.

in one picture here, he looks more like daniel. wink

of those previously mentioned on here, jude law would be great for dream... or desire.

for desire, i always thought it'd be great to find a male and a female who look androgynously (?) similar and have them both play the role.

Neil writes that Desire was adrogenous however he did give Morpheus a male gender just as Death is a female. I know what you are saying though. He has that frail look about him that is almost female vulnerable at times.

I put my vote in for Ralph Fiennes(sp?) as morpheus and, for a few kicks, for Destiny my vote has to go to Kevin Spacey, simply because he can pull off lack of emotion, and be very stonefaced. Such a movie probably would never happen anyway.

It would drive all concerned insane at any rate. Although that could be amusing to watch...

Nah. Whoever plays Dream has got to have absolutely huge eyes. Thats why I've always favvoured hunting down an unknown who just looks right, rather than going for a big name.

I agree and disagree on some of the others mentioned but thought I'd bring another name up, too. Not sure how he'd fit the part nowadays but certain pics of Vincent Cassel suggest he could be good for Morpheus. I haven't seen L'Appartement myself but there are some interesting photos at http://www.chez.com/lappartement/accueil.htm which show Morpheus-potential. The contemplative profile ones in particular? Not sure how his Dobermann look goes with it though, similar hair to Morpheus but not sure otherwise.
The Brotherhood of the Wolf look at http://www.geocities.com/vcfansite/gwolves.htm may also give you some idea... The third one in particular, a very "Morpheus in historical gear looking slightly pissed off" look. Probably the best thing to sell him as Morpheus, that movie. He has the nose and most of the features if you ask me. Some of those pictures could be straight from Sandman, all you'd need to do is change the eyes to starry darkness. The second black& white one in particular. Hmmmh, think I'll actually have to go out and rent the movie now, haven't seen that either. smile

I think that david bowie could probably play it extremely well-except that he would probably never do it and I think he would look REALLY scary as Dream. Also, in Preludes and Nocturnes, Lucifer looks uncannily like david bowie circa Hunky Dory, so I can't really see him as Dream.

My votes go for Jonathan Rhys Myers(just give him some acting lessons and no more pouting PLEASE!) and Johnny Depp.

Yeah, Jim Caviezel.
They'd have to do something to make his eyes into 'stars in pools of night', tho.
Ralph Fiennes, Daniel Day Lewis and Jonathan Rhys Meyers get my votes.
But knowing Hollywood, they'd probably give it to Keanu or Brad. Bbbrrrr... Altho, that being said, nobody does expressionless like Keanu.
Pacino's too old. And shouty.

I used to think Juliette Lewis would be good as Delirium. Annie Lennox as Desire.
Claire Danes as Death. But I have since grown to dislike her. So, maybe... Jessica Alba? Linda Hunt as Despair. Bulked up, of course.

Liam Neeson as Destruction. Willem Dafoe as Destiny. Jude Law as Lucifer or the Cluracan. India Arie as Nada. Amber Benson as Nuala. Christina Ricci as Thessaly.

OK. Getting a little crazy here. Must sit down and catch breath. Phew...

Anna Paquin looks way to young, I reckon.

Natalie Portman?
Shannyn Sossamon?

Correction to my earlier post: not Ralph, but Joseph Fiennes.
Brandon Boyd from Incubus.

How bout we re-thread this thread or sub-thread it:

Who do you think Hollywood execs would decide to put into the role of Morpheus? Worst-case-scenarios...

My guess would be Russell Crowe (gasp!)
Imagine Steven Seagal!! (shriek!)

Dream: Ralph Fiennes has been my first choice for a while, but I'm starting to lean toward Daniel Day-Lewis. Daniel Day-Lewis looks more like Dream, but Ralph Fiennes sounds more like him. In my head, at least.

Daniel: Jonathan Rhys-Myers

Death: Anne Hathaway (Yeah, I know the star of The Princess Diaries isn't very Goth, but she'd do a good job.)

Destiny: Geoffrey Rush

Destruction: Kenneth Branagh, although Brian Blessed would work better as the full-beard, Viking-regalia Destruction, before he left his position.

Desire: I'd go with an unknown, preferably a working drag queen. Hilary Swank could probably pull it off, though, if she didn't mind being horribly typecast for the rest of her life.

Delirium: My current favorite choice is Maggie Gyllenhaal. Previous favorite choices were Emily Watson, Jacqueline McKenzie, and Samantha Morton.

Despair: Rebecca Gallacher. She was in a BBC adaptation of the Elizabeth George mystery A Great Deliverance. She played a character named Roberta, who was traumatized to the point that she stopped speaking.

Thoughts on which actors will be the most appropriate to play Morpheus or Daniel. Granted, real life people can hardly live up to our expectations of Dream, but who comes close?

No one. A film would be a silly idea. It could never be done properly.

It is coming...
