Hi everyone,

I need the help of a knowledgeable Gaiman fan. I remember that in one episode of Sandman or the 'Death' spinoff, there is a scene where a very old (5000 years?) man is killed by accident when a load of bricks falls on him. At first he is angry because he was 'so careful', but then reflects that he got a pretty good lifespan. Death comments that he got what everyone else gets, 'a life'. I really want to use this scene for an academic paper I am writing.

Unfortunately, my copies were destroyed in a flood about a year ago, and the library's collection is incomplete, so if someone knows which book this is in, that would save me a heap of time. Any ideas?

I prefer to live in a country that's small, and old, and where no one would ever have the NERVE to wear a cape in public, whether they could leap tall buildings in a single bound or not.

trolls are like pigeons..keep feeding them and they keep coming back and shitting in your street.

Brief Lives, fairly early on in the book. He was one of Destruction's friends and his name was Bernie Capax.
