Fiddler's Green was quite something, but one of the things that stayed with me was Mr. Gaiman sitting there and talking about how one day, while Jill Thompson was over, he looked over at her drawing on one end of the sofa, while he was writing at the other end and suddenly he finally figured out how Delight became Delirium.

You can imagine a room fool of people asking - How Myself included.

He immediately said he wasn't telling.

*sigh*

So there's a story there - like there's a story about the first Despair. Hopefully we'll get to hear both of them. There's Sandman to be told yet.

So, how does Delight become Delirium?

I personally very much like the theory fado and omnislash have advanced over there. I thought of it myself. I think that's possibly the idea Gaiman was thinking of as: 1- probably the moment of enlightmen he describes was during the making of Brief lives, where most of the hints on delirium change were laid down 2- all the hints seem to lead to that conclusion, even I had it indipendently from those 2 posters.

But Neil have always a way to surprise you so whethear this is the secret that lays beneath Del change or not I expect to be very very surprised and delighted when that story will come out gaiman's head.

I believe Delight became Delerium when Destruction left. She gave him a hard time about it when she and Dream tracked him down.

i believe whatever happened happened in what would later become Gotham City-- on the site of what would later become Arkham Asylum.

Every wonder why there's one city that seems to have all the psychos-- where even the good guy is a dark obsessive? Think about it... their existence deforms reality... Del said it herself...

(i'll write this story, i swear. and maybe make it fit in with Morrison's 'Arkham Asylum')

i ponder that Delight being so innocent and happy in her wonderful world she has not of such come across anything wrong and unfixable, she believes that everyone is happy and nothing bad could ever happen to anyone because she who is Delight exists in a world of intoxicating beauty. However when she 'does' come across something that is tragic and can never change (like say a child being knocked over and a mother cradles her in her trembling arms) from that moment on her innocence is taken and she becomes broken, thus becoming Delerium...... she'd rather be insane than face the reality of what this really world is, real.

No, she was already changing when Destruction was still around. In book seven, there's a page with Delerium relising that she's changing, going mad, becoming Delerium, and being comforted by Destruction, in what is referred to as "the Dawn Times".

Destruction walked out on the family in the 1700s, quite a bit later.
