Lucifer says it, I can not find it. I cant remember where it was said. I thought it was seasons of the mist but it isnt. I dont remember exactly what he said but he's talking about how before he was kicked out of heaven he thought of himself as being gods partner, not his subordinate.

Its driving me crazy. Does anybody know it?

I'm pretty sure it's The Kindly Ones, when he's talking to Remiel.

Incidentally I just started reading a Lucifer comic by Mike Carey. I didn't realise until recently it was Gaiman's version of Lucifer. So far it's damned (heh) good.

I glanced at it, I don't think that line is in it. Let me have a closer look...

No it's not Preludes and Nocturnes. I was sure it was in The Kindly Ones.

It is definitely The Kindly Ones. Part Thirteen, Lucifer is taking to Mazhkeen:

"I opend this nightsport for my own entertainment. And, for a while, in the night, it entertained me. But the diversion begins to pall. Once again, I perceive the void beneath the surface of all things. All that keeps me going now is the desire to see how it all comes out."

"Heow wosh cunnzsh ougk?"

"Oh, you know...the whole thing. The universe. I had the hubris originally to regard myself as a collaborator, as a co-authur... very rapily I found myself reduced to the status of character, following something of a disagreement in the fundamental direction of the creation. Now, I sometimes feel I'm simply waiting around to see which of us was right, which was wrong. But even if it turns out that I was right, what good does it do me? So -- what -- I get the thrill of standing at the end of the universe and saying 'See, I was right all the time'? No, I'm better off out of it."

---------

This is the follow-up from Seasons of Mist where Lucifer tells dream that he thought he was being original to rebel, but then saw that he was merely following the plan set up by Someone else.

Hope this is what you're looking for!

They're all good, aren't they? Smile For some reason, The Kindly Ones just really knocked me out. Part of it is the artwork -- Marc Hempel is so amazing, at least in my opinion. Some don't like his spare angular style, but I thought it fit that storyline so well.

Anyway, not to gush, and glad I could help. And it was fun looking through the books again . . . it had been a while!

Yes they are. I like the more realistic art of the wake. I love the pencils and colors with out any ink.

I didn't like the art in The Kindly Ones the first time I read it, but I did when I reread it recently. Still, I agree Eldi, I think The Wake has the most amazing art of all of them. The Wake, Worlds' End and Brief Lives are my favourites I think.

My favorite quotation ironically is from Lucifer himself as well. He said and I quote from Sandman: Season of Mists (Episode 2).

"Why do they blame me for all their failings? They use my name as if I spend my entire day sitting on their shoulders, forcing them to commit acts they would otherwise find repulsive.

'The devil made me do it.'

I have never made one of them do anything. Never.

They live their own tiny lives. I do not live their lives for them."

I'm looking for a quote from one of the Sandman comics or from The Dreaming series(i don't remember). The quote is about the difference about Secret and Mystery and I think the one that its saing it is Cain.
Its just driving me crazy, gotta know from which comic it is.

Now that is interesting. Originally I thought it was in "A Parliament of Rooks" in Fables and Reflections, but after some research I don't think it comes from Sandman and Neil Gaiman but rather it originates from Alan Moore's Swamp Thing run -- specifically his origin story from issue # 33.

He says something to the effect of: the difference is that a mystery may be shared, but a secret must be forgotten if one tries to tell it.

Maybe there is something else out there, but that is all I can find.

That quote from Swamp Thing is mentioned here. I've no clue about Swamp Thing, but I would have guessed early The Dreaming.
