Hi folks:

I pre-ordered Absolute Sandman from Amazon, and was surprised to find that my card was charged today for the book (per my bank)! I went to Amazon's site, and they don't yet show that my book has charged/shipped. However, they list the book as having a 11/1/06 release date, but also show it as "In Stock" and available NOW.

Anyone know what gives? This was a bit of an unwelcome financial surprise for me (early charge), but I'm psyched for the volume to arrive!

Amazon will charge at the moment of ordering. If they are unable to deliver, they will reimburse your credit card.

According to the DC Comics website, the book releases 11/1/06, so you're in the clear there.

Books are often available and in the warehouses of book distributors as much as two months before their actual release date. Release dates are decided by contract between publishers, printers, artists, distributors, writers, editors and . . . well, lots of people. Consequently, books can be ready for distribution well before their date of publication and just be sitting in a warehouse somewhere.

In this case, I'm quite sure that one of Amazon's distributors has the book in warehouse and accidentally sent out the message "title in stock," causing the discrepancy.

Long and short - you will get your book on or around November 1st.

According to the emails I got today, they're shipping early. DUnno why or for what reason, but mine's supposed to have been shipped out today.

Yeah, I've since noticed that a number of the major online book retailers are all showing active, available stock.

Yes, they confirmed today that I will soon be Absolutely delighted.

They haven't moved the pub date on the DC Comics site, but I'd trust those e-mails, particularly if they come with a tracking number.

Mine shipped, as well.

It was released early. Should be in LCS next week.

Neil's just posted about it on his blog. Apparently it now has a shipping date for next week for local comic stores as well.

Arrived today. Can't wait to get home from work and open the box for a splendrous gander.

Local comic book stores should be carrying reprints of Sandman #1 to promote Absolute Sandman, and it's only 50 cents!
