I read this awhile back (actually read Sandman for a college class!), but I was thinking about Sandman today and wondering about Midsummer Night's Dream, I think it's in III? What was the deal with the fairy queen talking to Hamnet? Was the Sandman's secret agreement with Shakespeare basically a "be careful what you wish for" kind of thing where (presumably being inspired to write Hamlet) would come at the cost of losing his son??

I prefer to live in a country that's small, and old, and where no one would ever have the NERVE to wear a cape in public, whether they could leap tall buildings in a single bound or not.

when's spring due?.

The whole argument between Oberon and Titania in 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' was over the possession of an Indian boy.

Who was played by Hamnet in Gaiman's production, if I recall it right. So I just put it down to the continued merging of play, audience and players.

Keep in mind that Hamnet died from the plague at age 11. Maybe this is Dream's way of giving the Shakespeare family a happier ending than a horrible death. That's what I'd prefer to think.

Yeah. Morpheus'd kinda know something about a son dying (though he wouldn't admit the hurt under extreme torture at the time).
