G'day -
Just wondering if any one recognizes this quote : 'Any view of things that is not strange is false' Is it from 'The Wake' - if so, which chapter. Also, is it actually someone else's quote, originally ? Cheers, Dougie. |

A quick online search is showing it's from the section "Exiles," but I don't have it right in front of me to verify.
Another site is claiming it was some graffit from the 1960s. I wonder if anyone has access to the Hy Bender book if they can take a look? _____________________________________________________________ Don't you realize? The next time you see sky, it'll be over another town. The next time you take a test, it'll be in some other school. Our parents, they want the best of stuff for us. But right now, they got to do what's right for them. Because it's their time. Their time! Up there! Down here, it's our time. It's our time down here. That's all over the second we ride up Troy's bucket. - Goonies |

Amy, I'm already on it. It was first in Sandman in Soft Places (in Fables & Reflections), a companion story to Exiles
Edit: neither the Sandman annotations nor the Hy Bender book say where it's from. I don't believe it's Neil's line based on other lines in Soft Places |

Well, I checked Bartleby's and our quote books and am not seeing it in there.
lemme hunt around a bit more. _____________________________________________________________ Don't you realize? The next time you see sky, it'll be over another town. Thanks guyz ... I'd been going nuts flicking through 'The Wake' trying to find it ... 'Soft Places ' I should've realised.
Yes - based on the other snippets - " Once I built a railroad; now it's done. Brother can you spare a ... " " Remember that the city is a funny place, something like a circus or a sewer ... " " Any view of things that is not strange is false ... " - like you said, it may not be Neil's line. I'm gonig to try the fine folks at harlanellison.com ( at the Harlan Ellison forum, ' The Pavilion ' Some of those guys are pretty snappy with quotes, and some are Neil fans too) Thanks again for your input, let me know if you find out any more info. Cheers, Dougie. |
