my apologies if this has been raised before, because I only started reading the Sandman series last year, and i could only borrow them from the library which is usually out on loan.
firstly, are there any plans to continue the series? i mean, there're still questions left unanswered in the series, and i think it would make a great tv series or movie as well. secondly, i have forgotten how daniel came to exist. i know he appeared in the wake, so can anyone enlighten me? thanks. |

Hi mortpenguin. I don't think Sandman would be continued, since Morpheus dies. However, there have been plans floating about for a movie, I'm not sure if/when it will get made. It might be best to keep an eye on Neil's blog. Howver, if you have n't already read them, there are two Death spin-offs (Time of Your Life and High Cost of Living). I've also heard there there may one day be side projects on how Delight became Delirium and the first Despair's Death. And of course there's the Lucifer series...
Hope this helps, Waspfearer. *** "objective evidence & certitude are doubtless very fine ideals to play with, but where on this moonlit & dream-visited planet are they found?" William James |

Daniel is the son of Lyta and Hector Hall who appear in The Doll's House. Danile in some way belongs to the Dreaming because Lyta was pregnant there for 2 years. *** "objective evidence & certitude are doubtless very fine ideals to play with, but where on this moonlit & dream-visited planet are they found?" There's also the Dream Hunters and Endless Nights, in case you don't have them already.

In answer to your first question; yes, there will be more Sandman stories. However, they will be created whenever Neil wants to write them. So there will be no ongoing Sandman series coming anytime soon. Just because Morpheus isn't around doesn't mean there won't be new stories about him. There are many untold tales in the Sandman universe.
The Winter's Edge one-shots that Vertigo has been putting out also feature stories set in the Sandman universe written by Neil. The second volume of stories written to help raise money for 9-11 also featured a story with Death and Destruction. As Scoundreal also said there is Dream Hunters and Endless Nights which also continue the Sandman story. Me? Lady, I'm your worst nightmare--a pumpkin with a gun. |

There are other vertigo comics which have the white Sandman in them , like Lucifer and The Furies. But, they are not all written by Neil.

Actually I've read the whole Lucifer collection and I believe that there's no guest appearance of Sandman anywhere. There's one scene taking place in the Dreaming (his realm) but all we see are the other characters, like Merv and Lucien.
There are others of the Endless that appear in the series, like Death (or at least she's mentioned in a scene) and Destruction and I might miss one. I believe that Neil has a clause that no comics with Dream as a character should be made unless he gives explicit approval or something. But if Daniel appears in Lucifer and I missed it, please tell me exactly where. I'd like to go back to check it out (not to verify, just for my own curiosity). |

I've always liked the fact that Neil's Sandman series is finite. It tells the story of the previous incarnatino of Dream, and ends with a rebirth/replacement. I think "Sandman" should never be restarted, but if by chance they wanted to continue the story of Daniel, then I wouldn't be adverse to that.
Daniel has appeared, if you know whre to look for him, in the Geoff Johns scribed JSA -- particularly in the 9th TPB "Lost". |

What i want to know is who Loki and Puck working for? Why did they kidnap Daniel, etc.
Either I missed something, forgot, or am just...dumb. Without fear... |

My memory may be at fault here - it's been such a long time since I read the Sandman books - but didn't Loki and Puck both owe Morpheus a debt?
Not that that explains anything... I'm just dredging it up from the depths. |

I thought the idea was that morpheus manipulated Loki's thirst for chaos and not wanting to owe a debt into getting his own way - namely the death and rebirth of Dream of the Endless so that Morpheus could be at peace with his broken heart

I heard that as well, I also heard a rumour that the Spanish Director that did Pan's Labyrinth is going to direct - ( By the way Pan's Labyrinth was brilliant - I loved it but very very dark - dont take kids.) Anyone know any more? I'd like to know whos casting it. I dread the thought of a miscast ...Can you imagine Death as played by Hilary Duff? |

Unfortunately I can.. and it's not a pretty picture. I really hope that there is a movie made out of it though. Seriously brilliant story. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Quidquid latinae dictum sit, altum viditur. |

Just a precision, I was wrong before, Morpheus does appear in the Lucifer series. There's a new TPB collected volume that was released recently, Evensong (nr. 11), and Dream appears on a few pages. I haven't read it yet but it looks like he and Lucifer have a discussion.
I had assumed the series had ended with nr. 10, it seemed final enough. Apparently not. |

Personally I'd love to see the series continued somehow, simply because the new Dream is so incredibly cool and full of potential for great stories. But I agree with Khaosbringer that the original 'Sandman' story is over now, since it was basically 'the rise and fall of Morpheus'.

Im not sure if I remember it correctly, that Neil said Sandman is still owned by DC. And DC can do anything to it, like continue the story.
And so I believe that Sandman would be continued, by a different author though, several years from now. ___ you had me at "Welcome to McDonalds......" |

But he's also said there's an agreement that no other writer will write a comic with Dream in it as a character, probably meaning Daniel as well as Morpheus.
