hey guys, first time poster here.
In the recent Wizard magazine, there is a page illustrated with comics "dead" characters. Wizard says that three will come back in 2005. Morpheus is in there. Will he come back? Should he? Is is better for the DC universe? All comments appreciated..

Nah. They shouldn't screw up continuity anymore then they already have (Hector Hall is the new Doctor Fate? WTF?). Also, Morpheus is clearly Neil's character, while Daniel is a bit undefined (so it'd be more okay to have other authors do stuff with him)

But yea, he'll come back... the only two characters to stay dead in comics are Uncle Ben and Bucky barnes

Does Hector Mann make an appearance in A~G's?
At the end of the novel somewhere its stated that a silent movie star that had not been seen in many years appears from a old VW bug with goat legs? Anybody?

I'd almost feel cheated if he was. The finality of the series kinda gave it an edge.

i hope if he were to be resurrected, it would be in the form of a dream. i'd hope that the story line would involve some unimaginable force causing overwhelming amounts of damage in Death's realm and as it becomes more powerful, it knocks Death... well... basically a Near Death Experience. some sort of limbo where for the first time in her "lifespan" she is forced to dream. i think that would be about the only force powerful enough to bring back Dream, and even so, at the end of Death's dream, he would have to die again.

I really, really hope that Morpheus never comes back. In the mythology Neil established, it wouldn't make sense, and it would cheapen the death of one of the best characters in the history of comics.

I mean, yes, they did just resurrect Collosus over in Marvel, but they did it in a way that makes sense in the mythology of that series, and for a real purpose, beyond that two-page splash image of the first fastball special in a long, long time.

oops. yeah, you're dead right. i meant to say that too. i REALLY hope he never comes back. haha. my little projection up there was just... hmmm... a way for him to come back WITHOUT coming back. not something i'd want to see happen, certainly, but slightly less stupid than him opening his grave Nosferatu-like, tucking the once again baby Daniel under his arm, and carrying on like nothing had ever happened!

I'd be absolutely cheated if he were to come back. his story is told, done, finished.

STring it out, bring him back, and all i can do is quote Gilbert's words on his resurrection.

Good morrow, kind people!
i feel alot of negative energy here in this forum! OF COURSE they should bring back Morpheus, i will throw myself at a fast, speeding car to be one of the artists for this new comic! not sure what the story would be about but it has to be something huge and final, so that it would have an impact on us fans, because frankly i'm not impressed with "the wake" it did not satisfy me one bit!!!
come on fans, step foward and demand more, more, more!!!

thanks, that is all....

this would indicate to me that you like to draw pretty Sandman pictures. or else you like to throw yourself in front of speeding cars. if the former is true, i want to see said pictures. Big Grin

We've seen Morpheus again, have we not? In the form of The Dream Hunters and Endless Nights? (the latter which contains my favorite Desire story, BTW...). Neil already wrote the perfect Morpheus opus - it's sitting on my shelf, in all its multi-hued, multi-volumed glory. I can accept new stories as standalone "vignettes" - I do not Desire for the Dream King to be Dragged back from the Dead to satisfy our foolish, petty, mortal wishes.

I agree. While I think there are more stories of Morpheus to be told, they should only be shown as past events. I mean, he's existed for many, many billions of years. I'm sure there are a few things the audience never saw about him.
I also agree with you about the desire story. It was nice to see him/her portrayed with a kind side, as well as the slutty, vindictive side.

Dream Hunters and Endless Nights takes place during the regular series. He wasn't "dead" yet. Morpheus could be a reserve JLAer. (hee.. hee..)

this is going to sound kinda cheesy... but i'd like to see him retconned into major DC events. What effect did the Crisis on Infinate Earths have on the Endless, if any? What's signifcant about Destruction and Death's meeting on Krypton? and i've already mentioend my Batman stuff

heheheh... reserve JLAer... you laugh, but Superman and Green Lantern have gotten pretty damn power lately (can't Green Lantern's ring do technically ANYTHING? and didn't Endless Nights show us that it contains power from a living star?)
and Zatanna did join the JLA at one point
