Maybe Daniel should get his own series. And in some odd, almost impossible way, Morpheus could play a mentor. ala Wally West/Barry Allen

Sandman never really left. The story isn't finished. There is a main storyarc that is finished, but there are tons of stories that were not told, but only hinted at.

Wizard would have included Morpheus even if it was just for a mini-series. I think Neil made an agreement with DC that they would not just bring Morpheus back or have another "Sandman" series without his consent. However, Daniel and Morpheus himself have appeared in other books with Neil's consent given. Other characters in the book can have stories told by others however as spin-offs.

I think it's a perfect time for Morpheus to come back for a few stories though or a mini-series. The Sandman series has gotten new editions, Endless Nights came out, the Death movie has been moving slowly forward and Neil is at an all-time high. To top that off there's those pesky rumors that have been floating around like what happened to some of the Sandman merchandise? Some new statues have come out, but there's quite a bit of merchandise I remember hearing about but never seeing. There is also *sigh* the Sandman film which I hope Warner Bros. will at least attempt to try and put effort into. Here's hoping that Batman Begins is sign of a new attitude.

BTW, how is Batman Begins heading in the direction it is? I thought Jon Peters would have tried his best to jump on it? Has he been fired? I also find it intriguing that New Line is doing the Death movie.

Damn. I REALLY want to read the rest of the graphic novels. The one I ordered on EBAY is taking forever. Then I think I can get number five from the library and then will have to purchase 6-7. It'll probably take until the end of the year to get them all.

In reply to cacfan's comments: "...Dream Hunters and Endless Nights takes place during the regular series. He wasn't "dead" yet. Morpheus could be a reserve JLAer. (hee.. hee..)...",

That's exactly my point. He wasn't dead yet (therefore countless stories can be told of this incarnation of Dream). What's the point in bringing Morpheus back to life (thereby cheapening his death) when the treasure trove has barely been touched?

For any comic character who has "died" and later been resurrected so the creative team can reap a fleeting $ale$ $ucceSS, that character no longer retains his/her/its meaning or emotion. What impact has death if the hero yet live?

...and...

...remember the "soft places" where time loops and whorls. Where beings who are countless ages old can meet those of the 21st century (and beyond). Theoretically, though I dread the mere thought, Morpheus could meet the future Legion of Super-Heroes <shudder> in one of the soft places. Alongside Copernicus. Or Kubla Khan. Or John Kennedy.

In other words, there's no NEED for Morpheus to be alive when he's been shown to exist in all times.

Or have I missed an important concept?

I haven't read the Wizard article yet, but is it talking about comic characters being brought from the dead as in from the grave or from absence in comics?

I like him the way he is. Dead in his aspect. Bringing him back to life would really disappoint me.

An interesting way he could "come back" and still have the aspect be dead would be as a dream of himself. That is to say it's no really Morpheus, but a character of the dreaming that is very much like him, similar to the dream that Hob has in "Sunday Mourning."

Why the shudder? The LoSH are great. I read a Marv Wolfman story with Chamelon Boy that had a great 'world's oldest game' type shapeshifting duel

Well...I was a huge LoSH fan "back in the day". Then they became tedious, each character having his/her/its own "unique" super power...there being no duplication allowed, of course. Though I definitely would have preferred *some* duplication rather than suffering some *ahem* LESS than stellar performer, just because he could bounce, or something.

It's not the characters I object to so much as the potential "Brave and the Bold-ing" of Morpheus.

(Hey...I liked the Brave and the Bold, too, for what it was and what it was meant to be. But the Sandman team-up du jour is the explanation for the shudder...)

There's duplication, unless Triplicate Lass/Duo Damsel had her other self die...

I mean, i haven't read LoSH in ages. I'm just saying i like the characters, is all. I would definatly like to see some Dream/Green Lantern interaction, going from the Endless Nights thing

And don't diss Bouncing Boy or Matter Eater Lad... Sandman originally came from a less effective Batman

As fr as the sandman storyline is concerned, i wouldn't mind seeing more future/past sandman stories in the vein of "Exiles".

Not only does the Dream King thrive, Daniel must be getting along a lot better with Desire than Morpheus did. (I'll speculate it's because of his mother's influence... that child was born and raised in Dream, but of Desire.) Evidence of this are these dreams I keep having about people I desire and miss desperately.

As for more comics, I will confess that I cried for page after page of Morpheus' memorial, and when I closed the last volume I felt a profound sense of loss. I am selfish, selfish, selfish, and I miss Delerium and Death and Morpheus more than anything. So, if Neil got together with some of his old people or some of his new people and did some more work, I for one would jump up for joy and then drink it down.

i'd like to see Jack Kirby do a Sandman story. Sadly enough, Jack Kirby is dead. Ditto Will Eisner.
Sorry to be depressing, but when i think of Sandman by new writers i think you need people of that caliber. They exist in comics today-- Alan Moore, i know. Are Walt Simenson and Steve Ditko still alive? there is a ton of talent out there, so it could be done
hmm... Alan Moore needs to do one in his own style and one in his Jack Kirby/60's Marvel style that he used for 1962. Its almost exactly like the real thing

personally, I don't think Dream coming back would serve any purpose... in fact to me it would slightly invalidate much of the reason behind his death.

Whether it was a concious or unconcious choice he seemed to orchestrate things to lead to his death. He was too devoted to his responsibilities to leave as did Destruction but at the same time he didn't wish to continue in them... and so he died allowing his legacy to pass to another.

A theme in the comics, particularly apparent in the comics encompessed in "A Season of Mists", is that perhaps one of the greatest elements of freedom is never having to stay in any place for ever. Dream has moved on... taken the same type of path he inspired Lucifer to take.

While we don't know for sure I feel its a safe bet that Dream isn't actually gone (what with the allusions to what happens after death)... but for those of us on this side of Death's domain, his path is hidden.

I just don't think it would work in this context to bring him back. Besides all stories have endings but if you look further they lead you on to new stories... in this case I think it would make more sense to continue this story with a new one... as Gaimon did with Daniel.

Anyhow that's simply my two cents

over and out

Hello, I would like to introduce myself, and share my opinion on this matter. No matter how much we want Morpheus to come back, he is one of those few comic book characters who actually died.
