Hi all,

this is my first post, even though i am a long-time Sandman reader and Gaiman fan Smile

question: Gaiman has written at least 4 stories (to my knowledge), about the Endless that haven’t yet been collected in a trade. These are: the 10-page Desire short story in Vertigo: Winter’s Edge (1997, painted by John Bolton), the 6-page Death short story in Vertigo: Winter’s Edge 2 (1998, art by Jeff Jones), the Desire short story in Vertigo: Winter’s Edge III (1999, Michael Zulli art); and the 5-page Death short story in 9-11 Volume 2 (2002, art by Chris Bachalo).

My question is (and I apologise if this topic has been previously discussed), do any of you know if or when DC plans to include them in an anthology, and if it would be an existing anthology or a new trade paperback? Has DC/Vertigo ever indicated if or when these stories may be republished? I'm dying to complete my Sandman collection! My Sandman trades are some of my favourite books.

I imagine the previously unpublished stories may appear in one of the upcoming absolute volumes, but I already have the entire series in trade paperbacks, can’t afford and really don’t want to replace them, but I would like to have the full story eventually! Hmm I wonder if they may be reprinted if Gaiman ever revisits the endless- he has suggested that in 2008 (20th anniversary) he may do some more stories.

Thanks in advance for any help! Smile

Unless the inimitable GMZoe has some information for you, I don't know that we'll be much help. Contact The Man himself, though, and if he doesn't get back to you there's a chance that one of his minions will. I'm sure there's an interest in collecting those stories, if nothing else.

yeesh modss, use the search function on the site! I don't have any extra info myself, but...

from Feb blog:

Hey Neil,It's entirely possible I missed this, but I can't seem to find it, either on your site, or in any information from DC.Will the Absolute Sandman books also feature the 2 Death books, Dream Hunters, and Endless Nights (Dust Covers?), or will they be strictly the original series?Much thanks,-Kev.

Absolute Sandman won't include the things you've listed, but it may include stuff that hasn't been seen much before now. I suspect the Death books will wind up, along with some other content, like the Jeff Jones short story and the Death Gallery, in an Absolute Death, in a year or so.

So, while it doesn't answer if all of them will be collected separately, at least one of the stories is being planned on being put in the Absolute editions. As you have the trades, if I were you and wanting to read the stories without spending a few hundred, pop into your local comic store or go to ebay and pick up the individual comics they're in. None of them are very rare or expensive.
