Hello! i am new to this board but not a new fan of Neil's! I read sandman when it was first around and also black orchid--but didnt "pay much attention" for a while once the nineties started! BUT i first read stardust years ago and was entranced! NEIL IS A MODERN DAY LITERARY GENIUS! and i feel so lucky that he lives in my hometown! that grooves me out beyond belief! anyway! my questions are these--what are your favorite of neil's works? and of the prose what would you recommend to someone new to neil? thank you and HELLO!

Hello Flapper. Welcome to the board.
My favorite novels by Neil is either Neverwhere or American Gods (depending on what mood I'm in). If you're looking for what to read next, I'd suggest giving either Neverwhere or Anansi Boys a shot. I think they're closer in tone to Stardust than the others.

But really, it's hard to go wrong. Good Omens and Coraline are great, too. And check Mirrormask out on DVD. That's a lot of fun, too!

Hi flapper:

My fave: The tragical comedy or comical tragedy of Mr Punch

~You are a *Taverner*.
Sometimes patrons want to go where everybody knows their names, though it helps
when half of them are named John. When people want to celebrate, or commiserate,
they gather to your establishment. You provide the atmosphere, the warmth, rum,
and even an ear to bend. Did I mention the rum? Years before the language will be
mangled with terms like facilitator and networking and interpersonal communication,
you've overseen it all, and broken up a few bar fights, to boot.~
