I liked the first volume, but there the redone colours really made a difference. Not sure I'd want to spend as much on volume 2. Any opinions?

I thought the re-colouring will only affect the first handful of volumes. In any case, I wasn't too keen on the art especially in vol. 1, but it was much improved for me by the new, more vibrant colours. I already like the art in the later volumes, so the new colouring job in itself isn't enough reason for me to get the Absolute Sandman vol. 2.

Then again, I'm also a completist, so chances are I'll eventually cave in and get it.

Seen 'em, don't like 'em. How can you comfortably read these tombstones?

What I'd really like is the original issues, with the ads and the letters pages and everything. Some of those fan letters were amazing, at least in the issues I still have.

You read and relate to them very differently, or at least I do. A normal book I just throw in my backpack, carry it around, read it on the bus. It's not so much the book that matters but what's in it.

With the Absolute editions (as with the Complete Calvin & Hobbes, for instance), I enjoy the materiality of the book. Taking it out and reading it is more of an occasion. It's more like setting the table nicely, putting candles and flowers on it and dressing up nicely as opposed to having dinner on the kitchen table or in front of the telly. Either can be very enjoyable, but they're two different things.

Thanks a lot for that link. Quite impressive difference... I somehow think I may order the book after Christmas. Smile

I haven't gotten either of these, but they look great. I just need, you know... money to get them. There are four total being made, correct? Maybe they'll offer a big damn set at a cheaper price...

Will I purchase Absolute Sandman volume 2 despite seeing the results of Absolute Sandman volume 1?

The answer is yes. It's not even a question. I'm a comic book collector and there are certain books that you need to have. This is definitely one of them.

The sole reason that I'll buy volume 2 is that it has my favorite storyline (Seasons of Mist) of all-time. This is a no-brainer. I'm staying here in the Philippines and despite the fact that it is very difficult for me to acquire that book, I made it a point to contact my relatives living abroad.

I'm staying in the province far from the capital yet I made an effort to buy this book through my relatives. Why? Because this is a masterpiece.

If you guys collect trading cards or the like, then you know the feeling of getting a very valuable card of a great player. In this case, writer.

The art of Sandman really depends on one's taste. For starters, when I read it for the very first time, I was turned off by it. I was into Jim Lee art (and who wasn't?). But upon reading it, I was mesmerized by the story, and in a very peculiar way, I learned to appreciate the art. I even thought for a moment that if it was drawn by Jim Lee himself, it would have completely ruined the story.

As for the extras, reading the original plot will make any aspiring writer a very happy person. Believe me.

This is a must buy. If you have some extra cash and would love to treat yourself, then by all means, buy this book!

It's not just the re-coloring that will make you want to have this. Not even the extras. But it is because of the simple fact that this is perhaps the best rendition DC has to offer to new and old readers alike with regard to perhaps the best regular comic book series written... ever.
