1) Did you like American Gods? Why or why not?
I did. I loved how the gods, although originally foreign gods, were not "gods in America" but really American. If that makes sense. Basically, what's exemplified by the difference between Wednesday and the Odin who Shadow meets in Reykjavik. Also, I loved how Gaiman created a little portion of "American Otherworld" with the "behind-the-scenes" place. 2) If you were to put American Gods into a genre, what would it be? Mythological Fantasy? Urban Fantasy? Contemporary Fantasy? All of the above, I guess. 3) If you have read other works by Gaiman, why were you attracted to them? Because he makes it hard for me to convince myself that all of this is really fiction. Because the ideas in his stories make existence that much more fun. 4) How often do you read, or how much experience with English literature do you have? I read a whole lot (about 10 books in the past month) and have fairly extensive experience with English literature as well as mythology. 5) What is your sex and (ballpark) age? Male, 21 |
