There are probably theories out there about Jack the Ripper being murders done by multiple people. I read somewhere though that handwriting experts think they found the guy, but they will probably never know for sure. But if it were multiple people, then Jack the Ripper would indeed be a fictional character. Good enough. =]

Actually, there are several fictional 'Hans' characters in German stories, but really, it ain't 'Jack'....
