And since I'm here, today I picked up InuYasha and Dr.Slump, a new book about Alan Moore (appears to be a long interviews made into a short, small book), a Japanese Jim Woodring book and a Jim Woodring DVD, which I'll be excitedly watching within the half hour

Tomorrow is a new Planetary. If anyone noticed I am a little excited about this. It has been a while since I this pumped about a new comic. I guess from what I have heard this series is going to end around #27.
It is #24 that comes out tomorrow. I will hate to see it go but I have so many unanswered questions and so many suspicions and theories of what is going on. I hope he makes the end worthy of what has transpired up to this point. ------------------------------ Quiver at my ineptitude |

Was in my new comic shop on my day off on Monday and talked with the guy there, chatted about what I like, what I've read, and if he had any recommendations. He recommended Berlin, by Jason Lutes. I had a couple of other books in my hand, books I'd flipped through before or were new by creators I'd read before, then opted to take a chance on Berlin (figured I might as well see what I can expect from recommendations from the new shop). Anyhoo, started reading it, am about half way through, and it is engrossing. The characters are emerging nicely and at a good pace. Different characters are easily and appropriately painting different pictures of the historical context against which they're set (1928 Germany). The art is very crisp and very appealing for my tastes, and I love the use of panoramic shots to set the stage and give it a cenematic feel (rather than just a bunch of character shots and talking heads). I always meant to pick up Berlin. I got Jar Of Fools by Lutes when it came out (pre-Berlin) and thought it was grand

I've heard of Jar of Fools, but they were out of it so couldn't flip through it. A good read, was it? If Berlin is any indication, it should have been very good.

Read through the last half year (man, I get behind in my reading) of Batman, mostly by Judd Winnick. Entertaining stuff. All very fast reads. Current story arc has Jason Todd back from the dead and challenging Batman's no-kill policy. A bit disappointed by an appearance by Killer Croc because they've made him look more like Venom (i.e. less human, more crazy, mouth full of teeth always open with tongue curling out and drooling). I also strongly suspect that some guest writer's issues in the middle accidently trod over Judd's storyline, so I'm going to pretend they didn't happen

why do they have jason todd back from the dead? or do i not want to know.
this month i picked up angel #2 (and i don't think i got issue 1 last month - i really should kick my comic shop up the ass!) Fallen Angel #1 - much much different art from the last run, i'll have to read it and see who it feels Fable #something or other - guess what? still loving it and solo #8 - gotta love deadman ~ I prefer to live in a country that's small, and old, and where no one would ever have the NERVE to wear a cape in public, whether they could leap tall buildings in a single bound or not. the parrot... ...gets tiresome. the parrot... ...i ate him. CHIKKINZ? |

I heard they had someone pretending to be Jason in some story or another, or an imaginary tale, and Judd went 'hey, why not actually bring him back?'
As for the reason in the story, it hasn't been explained yet. Batman has been quite frustrated about this, doing blood tests, checking lazarus pits, digging up Jason's grave, but a reason hasn't been provided yet |

So, has anyone read Infinite Crisis? (I will post a bit more about this in another thread.)
Oh, and my haul this week- Transformers: Infiltration #1 Star Wars: Republic #82 Infiltration: More set-up. The first arc is shaping up to be pure set-up. The pacing is a bit slow, but not excruciatingly so. It has been noted elsewhere that faction sigils are gratuitously applied. (I guess the comics are toy-accurate, even if there is no accompanying line.) Light on ideas, heavy on action. Furman's command of character is equal that that of anyone who has read a source-book. The Easter Eggs are primarily verbal, and on the front page. The last few pages have an utterly discouraging preview of the upcoming Beast Wars comic (based on the recent on-line preview). Infiltration may be uninspired, but the preview is pretty well bad. Grade: C Hopefully, the next arc will be better. Worst case scenario, if the comic stays at this level, it will be good filler while waiting for good peripheral comics, which makes it better than the old Dreamwave series. Republic: This issue seems designed to allow for a full final "post Order-66" issue. As there really is no credible way to give Vos a final showdown against any of his adversaries from the past few years, Ostrander seems to be setting up for Vos' final confrontation with the Dark Side. The worst part of the writing may or may not be Ostrander's fault. (My own sense is that this is an editorial problem, but I may be wrong.) Just as in Episode 3, Chewbacca gets a gratuitous guest appearance. Feh. Bah, and humbug. Art-wise, things have gotten worse since last issue. Faie (the clone commander) changes outfits. Last issue, he was an infantry commander. This issue, he is in cavalry armor, but operating as an artillery officer. Um. Yeah. I just cannot understand how that heppened. Yes, the Insider GGAR article stated clones could change armor, and doing so in the midst of a campaign might makes sense, one might think the artist could draw the correct uniform in context. Still withholding a grade until the next issue, but this issue is gonna bring it down. |

Just read It's A Bird... by Steven Seagle and it was amazing. A real world story about how he can't write Superman. Dark world he lives in.

Has anyone picked up Brian Wood's DMZ?
I'm starting to get into it. It seems that he's building a world that might have some legs. "Witches. Flying monkeys. I's never goin' take PCP again." |

Are you looking for something in TPB format, or something on a monthly basis?
