And do you need to be keeping up on the whole civil war thing to understand those two comics?

Not the Daredevil one, that's for sure. And in my opinion, that ones the best out there.

And I'm pretty sure you can get most everything about Civil War from just the main Civil War comic. You don't really need any of the supplementary issues (I've only got the New Avengers ones thus far).

Well, I ventured to the comic book store again.

Bought Omac #1 and I am not impressed. It was actually good until the brougt in the fake firestorm guy to fight the Omac.

DMZ #2- No longer going to listen to Robin Williams' recommendations.

52- Standard quality, standard qualms.

Goon #18- still worth waiting for every two months. Its funny, its pointless, its just right.

New Avengers #21(based on Scoundrel's recs) not a bad issue, just not enticing.

Civil War #1(same)- a good read, and I will be buying the second issue. Its worth my $3.99. However I am not sure that superheroes with masks are an american tradition, even in the Marvel universe. Isn't WW2 the first instance of them? Thats what? Three generations?

Walking Dead #24- Best read of the week. Second issue of WD that I have ever picked up and I am impressed by its quality and characterizations.

My dad used to buy comics for my eldest brother (who is now around 50) when he was a kid. A few years ago, he took them to someone (comic collector or antique dealer, I can't remember) and he said that they were really expensive comics. There were Superman, Spiderman, Batman, and others.

silver age comics, from the 60's, are the new crown jewel of the comic collecting world. More Marvel then DC

Oh wow, I just saw some DC Haunted Tank and House of Mystery collections I think I must own next trip to comicville.

Black and white they be, but still they contain great, hard-to-find stories.

Well, there were a lot of masked Western heroes in the Marvel Universe and the Eternals, Deviants and Inhumans have been around for ages.

There's also a handful of WWI era masked heroes.

And, honestly, even if you peg it to WWII, masked heroes predate the use of "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance. One of the criticisms of the U.S. that I continue to hear from my European friends is that if something's happened for more than five years, it's an AMerican tradition.

No, but, to quote the local conservative rag:

weren't the eternals and inhumans not in the public consciousness for most of their existence and thus not count? I do not know any western heroes, unless the western ghost rider is still included in continuity.

Oooh... Shameless, unpaid plug for Marvel Westerns Month. I bought the Two Gun Kid Special and it ties into She Hulk. It's a really fun read.

There are a couple other specials out too, I believe. Rawhide Kid possibly?

Bought 52 #10- pretty solid issue, not great.
Green Lantern 12- should have been better, the writers seem to be trying to redeem Jordan by saying everyone he killed as Parallax are not really dead.
Green Corps 2- not bad, better then GL.

Walking Dead 19, 20, 23..wow..damn good writing, very strong characters and both unique to one another and fully realized, not easy to do.

52 #12- It seems Black Adam will be the key to 52. Not a bad character, but the writers seems intent on rehashing the same conflict with the character.

Batman 655-- Batman has a son! Talia's love child apparently. And there were Man-bat ninjas in it. Luckily, no one said Pow or wham. Perhaps thats for next issue.

Walking Dead-- buy this friggin comic everyone!

Civil War, not a bad issue. The fight scenes were way too brief and jumbled for me though. And to many characters shown without introductions to who they are. The last panel was cool though.

I also bought the Sentry #3 from the first miniseries which I found for cover. Really strong comic. One of the best i've read in a long time.

My comic shop stop:

New Avengers 22 -- I've never read a lot of Luke Cage, but this issue had the most emotion I think of the whole series. I liked it even more than the Cap one last month. I really need to sell the first 20 issues...

Eternals 2 -- Wow. Kind of shocked by some of the things that happened in this one.

Civil War 3 -- Iron Man vs. Cap! Argh! I wish it could've lasted longer, too, but I still loved it. Some really nice touches of humor (like the renegade heroes new secret identies). The Xavier Mutant reservation thing is interesting, but kind of just dropped in. The last panel was awesome. I'm ready for the rematch.

Daredevil -- Devil in Cell Block D Finale. Good Finale and showdown with the other Daredevil. I knew Foggy wasn't dead, though. I really loved Matt Murdock in prison. Hope the series still stays strong now that he's busted out.

I am curious about the Amazing Spider, spidey/cap fight, but I have decided to continue my post clone spidey boycott.

Walking Dead is an ongoing Image comic with 29 issues so far about life after the Walking Dead begin to rise. Its black and white in the interior, and tends towards horror, but the key is the use of very real characters to move the plot. You feel like you know each one. Major players die in this as well. Trust me, as long dialogue heavy stories do not bore ya, pick it up.

Scoundrel..good line from Civil War 3(not word for word) but the part about what Spidey will think when Sandman knocks on Mary Jane's door.

Metall-X: I liked that line, too. And I picked up the Amazing Spider-man comic in the shop and thumbed through it. You're not missing much. Longer fight, but pretty much the same thing (and not as exciting, somehow). In fact, I think they (briefly) pretty much did the same thing in the Civil War comic. Millar does a good job of showing the humanity of the superheroes. I really hope he finished it well (and that it's not wrapped up in a nice neat little package, but with lingering effects...I know, I'm asking a lot of Marvel, but I have hopes).

I am glad I did not buy it then, I was hoping for more from the spidey comic. Its possible that Civil War is not over yet. Marvel may pull a public opinion type thing to wrap it up. Who was the "hulking" and giant non-Giant man guy?

52 #13, was pretty solid, kind of interesting seeing the heroes proven wrong for a change.

The Creeper- weak writing. The character was neither funny or scarey. A very sad imitation of the Joker but without the clown's style. The art is awesome though.

Sentry(4+5 of first miniseries)- wow..great art, killer writing and an ingenius plot. Now if they only wrote Superman this way. That'd be something. A little tarnish on superman's cape.

I picked up Moon Knight #4. I love the art and the story is just starting to pick up. Please, please, please Marvel, make this series last. No dead end storylines, please.

Looks like Moon Knight's facing a grade B villian as he is probably facing the Taskmaster.

Last night I finished reading Ex Machina: the First Hundred Days. It's follows the beginning political career of the world's first and only superhero, who hangs up his jetpack when decides he can do more good by becoming mayor NYC. It's set in an alternate timeline, where only one of the planes succeeded in hitting the WTC. The other plane, he was able to stop (it was the last time he "suited up").

It's written by Brian K. Vaughan of Y the Last Man and has pretty art by Tony Harris. Vaughan has a knack for telling an exciting story and mixing it with pop culture and current political commentary, so this is right up his alley. Worth checking out, for anyone interested.
